Kenmore 756A-30BH Mechanical Sewing Machine Questions & Answers
Kenmore Model 385.16231300
I discovered the same problem. What I figured out (after having the machine "repaired" several times) is that it seems as if the bobbin type may be the suspect. I started looking closely and it seems as if I have 2 different types of bobbins. So, I tried both types. Since I don't know the bobbin number(s), you will have to put up with my description .... the bobbin that is flat, top & bottom, seems to bunch up. The bobbin "bounces" when I sew. The bobbins that are rounded on the top and bottom don't seem to "bounce" and it doesn't bunch up the lower thread. Now, I have read my manual front to back and it does not say what bobbin type or number to use. So, if anyone knows, it would be a great help. I am assuming the correct bobbin is the "class 66" bobbin. Does anyone know for sure?

Replace belt kenmore sewing machine
How to remove the handwheel on a 1703 (and maybe others but not sure) To remove the handwheel on an 1703 you need to remove that light colored circle in the center of the handwheel. Take a pin or needle and put it in the tiny hole you'll find along the edge of that circle and lift off. Under it is a screw
to loosen to remove the handwheel.

Some times the electrical connection works and
It could be the electrical connections at the sewing machine, and not the cord. Does the light come on? Does the light stay on when the motor stops working? This could indicate problems other than the cord.

There is something wrong with
Does this only happen when you begin sewing????? Make sure your upper and lower threads are long enough for you to hold them.......lower your pressure foot and don't release the threads until you have sewn several stitches into the seam. If you don't hold the threads when starting a seam...both threads often get pulled down into the bobbin area and cause a big tangled mess. Hope this helps.

Bobbin thread is breaking and
check the bobbin case tension--turn the screw to the left to tighten ---turn the screw to the right to loosen
also check the needle to see if it's damaged
also make sure the bobbin is threaded correctly & placed correctly in bobbin case
check for lint or loose threads in bobbin area
check for warped bobbin

When I start sewing my needle stops
You may be using a wrong bobbin size or you have lint ( fabric fuzz) clogging up the bobbin compartment. Take a pipe cleaner and clean under all the boobinholder sides to clean out. Sometimes even the bobbin getting wound from the spool can wind uneven and create this problem.

Thread breaks right away and is all bunched up on
ok u have a tension problem with the top of you system. also make sure that all thread is caln and no little pieces remain a cleanign kit should of come with your machinee. re thread both of the threads and pull on them there tension shoud be close to one another. use the top tensioner to adjust the top threads tension to amtch the bobbins this should fix the problem. also makle sure yoru not jerking around the material as the machine sews as it moves the neede and the bobbin catch tiomes gets off. use the stomp foot with the machine to help guide the cloth or abric. when you have to change directions. stop sewign and turn that fabric. this should also help prevent the bunching. please feel free to contact me at

Thread keeps breaking and i can't get the stitch
Be sure to check that the machine is threaded properly into the needle. Also look at the instruction book to be sure you have the bobbin inserted corectly and that the thread is place properly (threaded correctly) in the bobbin area. Some machines have a diagram on the machine, but if you do not sew frequently; it's easy to mis-thread the bobbin. Did your bobbin thread wind properly onto the bobbin (not loose or loopy). That too, can be a problem. Best of luck. Susan

Needle up/down button isn't working
HI,
The piece where you put your bobbin on to wind, has not been released. It is still up against the bobbin winder, pull it back and you button will work.
