Dell Inspiron Laptop 1440 Questions & Answers
My dell inspiron 1440 will only say bootmrg is missins
this could be a software fault requiring repair of windows oerating system using the windows installation cd or it could be a more serious problem of a broken hard drive which will need a new one.
before this check the boot order of your system by preesing f8 or f12 or entering setup and looking in the bios at the boot order. if it is wrong set to boot from hard drive.
My laptop is not powering on help
1.Connect the Ac adapter to a known good power outlet. Check the Power LED indicator on AC adapter (without plugging into the Notebook). We are only checking the power AC adapter to see if that is working.
2.If LED on the AC adapter is not lit (when unplugged from notebook), reseat the AC adapter brick and cable. If still there is no light on AC Adapter replace AC adapter and Power cord.
3.If LED on the AC Adapter goes off only after connecting to Notebook, the issue is with the motherboard. Replace Motherboard, DC-In port (AC adapter connector).
4.If the AC Adapter LED is always ON, take a technician's help and reseat the Power Button Board. You can refer to the Service Manual for details on how to reseat the Power Button Board. (NOTE: Before the notebook chassis is opened ensure all the power connections including battery and external devices are disconnected)
Can t open my dell inspiron 1440 old one
For its time it was a good spec with Vista 64 and 4GB RAM and should still work well today. Three options.
1. Try logging into the administrator account in safe mode.
Start your PC and press F8 repeatedly before Windows loads to open Vista's Boot Options screen.
Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
On welcome screen choose the Administrator account, which by default has no password. Just hit return.
Goto Start / Control Panel / User Accounts and create a new user account with admin privileges
Close and restart PC and log into the new account.
2. Use a password recovery program
The following link shows 8 free password recovery programs.

3. As a last resort reset to factory defaults. Dells normally come with a hidden recovery partition.
Either boot from the recovery disks you created or use the hidden partition for a fresh install.
To do a factory restore,on startup press Ctrl + F11 which will take you to the recovery partition so you can do a factory restore. This will then create new user accounts.
Good Luck
Error code 2000 0146
This is the error code for a failed or failing Hard Disk Drive.
Try to boot from a recovery disk and run the Drive Self Test from the utilities known as 32 bit diagnostics.
Good luck
Gray white screen.. Can't hear or feel hard drive or fan
Hi,
It is unfortunate that the Dell Inspiron 1440 has a Gray white screen. Request you to try following the below steps which might help:
(1)Turn off the computer.
(2)Remove all the external peripherals like AC Adaptor, flash drives, battery, etc.
(3)Press and hold the power button for 30sec which releases the static on the computer (if any)
(4)Put back the battery and plug in the AC Adaptor.
(5)Let the computer charge for some time.
(6)Try turning on the computer.
If the same issue then I would suggest you to try connecting a known good external LCD screen and check if that helps.
Also check if there are any beep codes from the computer, how the power button light behaves and the system LEDs (located along the front edge of the system next to the media card reader).
Thanks and Regards.

Hi,
Going by your post it looks like you require the BIOS password. Let me know if the password prompt appears before or after windows boot. Do send me the system service with the customer details like customer name, place of purchase, shipping address, email address and phone number along with a picture of the password prompt screen via email to
[email protected] . I will then check and see what can be done.
Thanks and Regards.

Dell 1440 laptop
Try to test your ram, maybe its dying, you can use Memtest 86+ for that. If the ram is ok, try starting it up without your hard drive and try to enter the bios.
Dell inspiron 1440 error 2000-0146
Hi Gail
This error very much relates to your hard drive either having failed or is in the process of failing. The error may come up when the drive fails the S.M.A.R.T. Test (sounds stupid I know).
This test could indicate that the drive is not spinning up in the required time frames or that it draws more power or has needle placement issues.
Sadly here drive age may not have to say much. As a rule in computer electronics you can triple or quadruple every components age. So if the device is 3 years old in technology years it could be 9 years old.
Especially in mobile computing mechanical drives can fail faster even though manufacturers put in newer software to combat the issue of hard drive failure due to movement. For example a hard drive in simple terms is very much like an LP Player where a needle is running on the disc reading the data/music for playback. Now imagine what happens when your walking, moving (bus/train/car you name it) and this needle is exposed to various forces it normally wouldn't be exposed to. Basically that additional strain can cause these mobile hard drives to fail a lot faster.
In this case it does sound like you will need to look at replacing your drive and I would recommend doing this before it fails completely as recovering any data once this happens (photos, documents, etc.) will be very costly.
I hope this helps

Disc player for my inspirin 1440 not working
Is it a disc you burnt yourself or one from the music shop? If it doesn't matter what disc then i suspect it's a faulty drive. is it still under warranty? Either way sounds like you need to get the drive replaced
