The fortune cookies are baked as flat circles. As they come out of the oven the paper is folded inside while they are still warm and then they are folded over to cool.
there is no correct answer as you should do whatever you enjoy eating. Frosting cookies takes quite simple cookies and makes them a lot more fun. Sprinkles and sweets are good for kiddie friendly cookies. You can use chocolate too in a variety of ways to decorate.
Some people add things before the baking happens such as rolling the dough in sugar, sprinkles or nuts, for a different effect post baking.
If you are looking for a very simple cookie press, you could try amazon; http://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Cookie-Pro-Ultra-Press/dp/B000I4OJ1E/ref=pd_sim_k_1
But if you want to replace your broken one with something a bit sturdier, take a look at this link:
Take a look at the range of cookie cutters that Amazon sells. They seem to have everything from animals to alphabet and it's really not expensive.
You could try the Cookie Bouquets site - http://www.cookiebouquets.com/
A cookie bouquet is just a fun play on a traditional bouquet of flowers, but instead of flowers, cookies on sticks are used to create the a cute visual effect.
You can ship cookies but I would advise you to buy a recycled can to put them into. Also bear in mind that sturdy, thicker but smaller size cookies are more likely to stay intact than thin, large cookies.
You can - but just be careful that you don't over grease them as the fat will get absorbed into the cookie and could affect the way it cooks and tastes. It also might make them come out flat.
Flat cookies could be caused by old baking soda or powder. Try chilling your dough before you baking the cookies, to help them keep their shape.
It's very easy to check the freshness of your baking powder. Put a teaspoon of the powder with a third of a cup of hot water. If the baking powder bubbles it is still good to use.
It's not the end of the world if you have to use salted butter in your cookies. It's just better not to as then you can control the amount of salt in the recipe. If you do need to use salted butter just make sure that you leave out any extra salt the recipe calls for(watch out for salted nuts too).
Here are a couple of places that deliver cookies within the States.
