Hi bblasdell,
The 4 and H that you're encountering are describing that the fuser is heating improperly or not heating up. The easiest way to fix this is to replace the fuser unit inside the machine.
Hope it helps.

The copies are not clear, they are fuzzy... its
Have seen this problem before and if i remember correctly it is down to the fuser running at the wrong temperature. To prove this , make a copy. try and judge when the paper has left the drum but before it reaches the fuser. Open the side cover and very carefully remove the paper. look at the image. if it is clearer then it is the fuser. If it is still fuzzy then the problem lays in the development area.
MWe have a sharp al-1631,
Odds are, that the fuser driver rachet gear is stripped out and you may also have a broken gear on the upper fusing roller. It could be one or both..... You will have to take the fuser unit out and look at the gears. If you do take the fuser out.... Unplug the copier from the wall...... There are just two screw that take the fuser out, you will have to take off the back cover to unplug and remove the fuser unit.... Good Luck

Hello,
It could be carousel out of index. If that is a case, your printer needs service.
However, have you had a chance to try the following steps?
Do a copy instead print to see it copies the whole page?
Take out toner cart and gently shake it back and forth. Look inside to see if you find any pile of lose toner, and check to see if there is any lose parts too and remove them.
Cartridge you currently have: is this new? some cases cartridge can be a problem too. Has it been working fine with the same cartridge? Trying with new cartridge?
Last: if you have tried all but still not working. I believe it is carousel is is out index. You might be able to request the instruction from Sharp on how to to fix this issue, but most of case they request you to bring in.
Let me know if I can further help.
Thanks
Sharp al1631 copier doesn't work after replacing new drum
Press the following keys in sequence and as fast as possible. Clear, exposure mode (far left key), clear, exposure mode. In other words...clear, far left, clear, far left. The display should go blank if this is done properly. If so then enter 24 as if you were going to make 24 copies, then press print. You should get flashing 000. then enter 7 as if you were making 7 copies, then press print. Should get flashing zero's.
Hit clear a few times and there you go!
Here it is in a line:
"C",far left, "C", far left, 24,print,7,print, CCC or turn machine off then on.
Good Luck
On my AL-1631, it has stopped making copies. All
Sounds to me like your lamp is stuck. There is a scan latch that can catch the lamp. it is on the under side of the scanner on the left side.
Or is your lamp not coming on at all.
If it prints , it eliminates the laser, drum and developer unit. Try making a page with the top up and see if the lamp is moving back and forth.
