I answered this question previously and the solution remains the same;

how long have you been using the player and has it ever accept blank DVD-R discs in the past.

The problem might be as a result of weak laser (lens) or the blank discs inserted might not be compatible with player.

When the laser(lens) of a player becomes weak, it will not be able to read blank discs. It only takes a very strong laser to read/accept blank discs. If it happens that the laser (lens) is the cause of the problem, then it means you will need to replace the laser (lens) to a brand new one to be able to read blank disc. Though the player might be playing DVD and CD, note that blank disc is stronger when it comes to reading from the laser (lens), it requires sharper laser. I hope you understand this.

So, insert a CD into the player and observe if it will play.If it plays, then its obvious that your laser is very weak.

Concerning the incompatibility issue, I hope you are aware that there are various kinds of empty DVD discs such as DVD +, DVD -, DVD RW. Try any of this empty DVD discs as one of them as to be compatible with this DVD recorder.

Amongst the two topics discussed above, one has to be the cause of the problem. So its up to you to figure out which is the cause of the problem.

In what input do you have your DVD or video. Can you give more info?.

Have you checked the amplifier?

You have a bad video heads please have tech replace

This means your DVD or Video Cass is copyrited and has what is called microfilm coating . This keeps you from transfering video and audio from one device to the next.

You should not need another '3840 to finalize the disks. Finalization just ends the index, makes writing back to the disk near impossible. You should be able to finalize / close the disk using a dvd authoring program (Nero, CD BurnerXP, etc).

The catch may be that the disks that you created are formatted as DVD video, closing a video disk may not be the same.

Another possibility is to use an authoring program (like the above) to copy your un-finalized disks to fresh media, and specify the disks to be finalized (or closed) when completed. I would try this first, the only thing to lose is time, and a disk. Oh, and about 4.7GB of hard disk space to create the image if you only have 1 DVD drive.

If your absolutly sure the remote doesnt work there is a power button on the unit its self. As far as a universal remote goes, I my self would like to know that. After much research I have found no info on another remote working

all machines go only to channel 125 maybe you have channel 160 on cable box or sky just set vcr to channel 3 or 4 and channel 160 will come thru vcr to your tv

turn off the machine and disconnect the power for 4 or 5 min's, then try again, if it still won't let u then record another DVD and try to finalize that if the other DVD finalize option comes up then the 1st DVD is the problem, if both show this unable to finalize symptom then you have a problem with the machine, my bet is on the DVD being defective.

i did everyting today to fix this. bought new dvds, name brands different, tried finding codes, called the number. trust me. try this. clean it. thats All i did. cleaned it with a dvd cd cleaning disc, the one with two little brushes on it, nothing special, ran it until i heard the beep, popped my dvd in, they all worked. everyone, im still recording. i ran it about four times. now, if you tried to burn a dvd, and got the error, throw that dvd away. because i tried about ten dvds. after i fixed it, THOSE dvds were no longer usable. dont know why. hope this works.
