Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Power turns off and on every few minutes
This model had some odd problems--answers to a few questions might suggest what is wrongWhen set is on does brightness come up very slow or is somewhat darker when on?that might indicate a lamp issue----set will detect if screen not bright enough etc. With set on is picture normal? (no unusual color in back ground on screen or such? set is prone to light engine failures--the engine communicates with other parts of the set--something not right it shuts down.My final thought is a power supply problem----this is not a easy set to get apart to service or look for things---for the most part the entire front screen has to be removed to gain access to the boards. Note the lack of many rear screws on the unit.
A reddish cloudy swirl sweeps across part of my screen.
IF you are seeing a red or pink large oval area in the middle of the screen, I can tell you what the problem is.
It is not the lamp.
Let me know if you need more information--please confirm you have the red or pink oval.

Blue green colors wont show
Have you tried going into the settings to see if the blue and green are turned down. I know that is possible.
I have a 50vs810 dlp. The blue and red lights
To check if its the lamp, remove the lamp and check for damage. Sometimes if the lamps not broken chek for white spots on center electrode or if the mirrored backing is discolored. The first thing a repair shop will do is replace the lamp to see if thats the problem so you might as will replace it yourself and save yourself the extra money. In the owners manual it will tell you how to replace the lamp and the part number of the lamp along with the phone number to order it. Make sure the lamp is not a generic rebuilt one because some dont work. You might find one on line also.
Ballast board 50V720?
ballasts are rarely bad in this way, usually they work or not and 4 lamps in 6 years is a lot of lamps---average life should be at least 2 years and a lot do more.My view would be to at least consider replacing set.
Power comes on but no picture
If the problem is same with different input devices and you have ensured there are no loose contacts in power outlet, RC jack, cable and sockets, the TV needs servicing.
Red tint to screen
If the model is a 50v500 the real question should be does the set have a red oval area in the middle of the screen (entire screen not red)---if the entire screen is red you have a chance---it has a red oval area and it needs a new optical light engine----you will have options also but limited if that is the case.
Hitachi. Dril Dv20d B2 ,,chuck. Is slipping
my experience is that ,if you can find someone who says they can fix it, it usually just sit in their shop waiting for parts that never come. in this disposable world we live in ,repair and longevity of tools has kind of fallen by the wayside, i try to include a little in each contract designated for inevitable tool replacement.
Blue on the screen
Try to initialize it!I had whole redish/pinkish screen on my 50v500 starting a few days ago,
then I read through each of the threads on this site for the samilar
problems on my model. I found TVtechmaniac's
solution (pasted below) solved my problem. Thank you TVtechmaniac!
Enter the I2C Service Menu, be sure the power is OFF. 1. On the front control panel, press and hold the INPUT button. 2. Then press the POWER button for two seconds. 3. You may keep the INPUT button depressed until you see the OSD with the Service Menu displayed. 4. If you don't see the service menu, please repeat Process making sure you wait until the Power blinking LED stops. 5. Execute the Memory Initialize operation after the adjustment values have been written on a sheet of paper. Highlight "MEMORY INTI", arrow to the right and hold the button to the right (approx 5 sec.) until a check mark appears in the box. This activates the Memory Initialization.
6. After the Memory initialize operation has finished (10~15 sec, the channel will revert to CH 3.) the pink image symptom should be fixed.7. Write back
the adjustment values from your notes to their respective adjustment
parameters in the adjustment mode. (In other words, set the Data Values back to the the Data values written down before the Memory Initialization procedure). NOTE: Make sure the SELECT
Button is pressed on remote after every change to the values. Failure
to do so will result in the data values not being changed.8. Exit I2C menu. Press exit repeatedly until you go back to the normal picture. 9. Turn the set off-on and Confirm the picture remains in a good condition. BE SURE TO COPY DOWN DATA SETTINGS BEFORE INITIALIZING I2C SETTINGS

Hitachi 50V500 black and white only
Not sure what kind of video hookup you're using.I'm guessing you are using a red/white/yellow audio/video cord.If you plugged the yellow(ccalled composite) cord into the green of the component video port,it may look like black and white.(this can be a fun prank to play on someone who annoys you).
Hitachi 50v500 sceen has little dots showing
You have a set that was involved in a large class action lawsuit---the optical engines in this model had issues where they turned red or another color---little dots in picture is a classic optical light engine problem---last time I looked the part alone not counting labor was over 600 dollars.
