From what you have said it is not a thermal problem (hot or cold sensitivity) By the way did you try to test it with heat? a hair drying gun works great, not a circuit integrity problem (solder joints and cracks). That leaves component failure as the possible cause. What you could do is to get a known good board and and use it as a comparison to a know bad board, using a huntron tracker (can be gotten on ebay) or taking voltage measurements and comparing them them to the known good board and vice verse. This will at least give you an idea of which component might be malfunctioning. As you know you will need a schematic, and a voltmeter for the test of the voltage levels.

I believe that the problem is in the output stage after the board in question, something is causing the board to overdrive and this might be destoring the board. Try the heat test and take measurements to check the voltage levels on the good and bad boards.

Replace the convergence ic's. You will also find several burned resistors in the same area that need to be replaced.

First of all Check Flash focus is working or not?(Flash focus should finish 1 full cycle)
If Flash focus not working you will have a error code in your screen.
If any error message or wont compelte full cycle you have problem with convergence amplifier IC
It could be one of your IC bad along with Couple of small Value resistor.

Just to reset first before proceed another procedure;

Resetting the TV
NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet for 4 - 6 hours.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

There are several things that can cause this. Do you know how to use a meter? If so we can troubleshoot. If not then you will need to call a repairman. Let me know!

Where are the convergence output IC's. I have the replacement parts at home but I can't find where to install them because the old ones were removed.

Does anyone have a picture diagram?

Yes it certainly sounds like you have the old convergence outpuyt IC's that have gone bad in this TV set. If you have the soldering skills, and know how to work on printed circuit boards, you can repolace both of the STK convergence IC's. If you do not, you can get the complete convergence board at http://www.ptscorp.com, and the Hitachi board number is JT22056. Good Luck

Check if their is an open resistor around the flyback and horizontal output transistor, if none try checking the jungle IC, it might lock of solder around the pins.

The fact that you used the term "magic focus" tells me you have a Hitachi projection set. When the colors no longer line up on a Hitachi projection TV, it means that most likely one of the convergence output IC's has shorted out. Sometimes a shorted convergence output IC will burn up a low value resistor too. I have also seen a convergence IC crack loose from the board and burn up 3 low-value resistors. If your set is using the STK392-110 IC's, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and replace both IC's with the newer upgraded STK392-150 IC's. The output IC's should be resoldered / replaced and the circuits checked and realigned by a qualified tech familiar with Hitachi projection sets.

We had the same problem with our tv. We had to take it to our local radio shack. It cost another 200.00 to fix, but apparently they have seen a lot of problems with the hitachi. They had to order a new module for it. You might want to check with someone who deals with and fixes tv's in your area.

Unfortunately, this sounds like the transition between the split screens is now burned into the phosphor of the CRT's and is permanent, unless the CRT's are replaced which would cost as much as a new TV.

You will need to replace the convergence output IC's both are STK392-110's. They are located at the right side of the chassis with the back off. The sound problem is the surround board and is a common issues with those models of Hitachis. The board sometimes has to be pulled and sent away for rebuilding as they are not commonly in stock.

sounds like the tube cot a burn in the face of the tube . Unfortantly theres no fix foirthis except to chenge the tube. You are also going to need to have the horizontal sweep section checked out on the red tube or it will happenaagain . I have seen in the past a simple cold solder connection on the red yplk plug has caused this problem .. It is not a repair an amature or handi person can or should attempt to do Please seek out a trained tech to assist you in this repair. Good Luck
