Hitachi 60DX10B 60" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
For the past year my
When the picture goes off, do you lose sound too or just picture? This info will help me confirm if its a high voltage(that powers the CRTs projecting the image) issue or not. Please let me know so that we can continue the diagnosis
Power light comes on but
There are four leds used for diagnosing inside the TV 3 are green and 1 is red. Are they lit up?
Power not coming back on
In this cases the standby light seems to just blink and not to power on as it indicates a fault relevant to the failure of the drivers. Since there is a possible short or leak in the circuit the output driver section can take in huge current to trip the SMPS or from advice from the micro processor. Remove the power plugs and make sure that high voltage sections are discharged of the potential stored in capacitors. Look for visible signs of leak or of busted capacitors. Look for bulged capacitors or damaged components- burnt or busted. Use a multimeter to check the continuity or shorting in components, if so detach from circuit and test . If the voltage builds up and the set power ON and then shuts up then the suspected section must be checked in detail.
The processor must have the +5 voltage to the function properly , the +B and secondary voltages also must be checked to infer the fault. Trace with caution and in running through the signal path , circuit trail.

My tv has blue shadows
Hi Joyce,
If the symptom didn't cure by convergence
adjustment through the remote control, this is an
indication of faulty convergence board inside. You may replace
the convergence IC's and some of the resistor around because its already gone bad.
Also, consider bad solder joints in that area,
it will do the same symptom like what you've encountered right now. Find it first
and re-solder. If you
don't have necessary tools and
test instrument and can't do
the job yourself, I would advise you to look for a qualified technician to isolate the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
I have a convergence problem
Here is my answer:
a) Are you happy with the tv or do you wish you had a different one? Was the picture nice, clear and bright? If a big screen is what you want, then this getting this fixed may be the affordable solution.
b) Can you afford $300 to have a service shop repair? If you are happy with the tv, and ok with $300 then sure it is worth fixing.
c) Are you handy with soldering iron, have a basic electronics background and can interpret a service manual? If so you could do this repair yourself for about $50.
Can you get something better at same size for less than say $300? Yes, but it will be used, and you the buyer need to know what to look for when buying used. You don't want to pick up someone elses problem.
When i turn it on, it gets a blue looking shadow
projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone outProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.
Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

SOLUTION
You can see some more examples and find a fix using this link on Fixya http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull
Color is fine but in top right corner have blue
The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Any colors lines R,G,B mis alignment anywhere in the picture screen. The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead. These parts must be replaced on the tv convergence board to solved the tv picture convergence problems.
The colors are all there
It is convergence problem---set uses either 2 or 3 chips for this (most use two of the STK-392-110 OR 150 CHIPS.
Total parts cost on EBAY would be under 25 dollars.
This can be a do it yourself job if you can solder and have some skill.
See attached photo of convergence problem and typical convergence IC.
If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as I do this here for free.

THE COLORS SEEM FINE BUT
Colors fine but double image: does picture have red or blue outlines around lettering or images?
See attached photos, it they look like your trouble it is convergence problem, if not try to give better description of problem.
You can post a comment here and I will assist you-I am here to help.

Having an issue with blue line on top of screen,
Ur tv have convergence problems,it dead. The 2 STK convergence ICS,and some or all it resistors are dead.U know how to solders, have solder iron and solders?Tries websites like Tvrepairworld.com,TVrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit to repair it ur self. The shop will cost U $300-350 for parts and labors.
For derStrom...this is a reply
Thanks a lot for the reply. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your last question, but perhaps this link will help. Let me know if it doesn't, and I'll keep searching for the answer.
Again, I wish you the best of luck

Picture shrinks then fish eyes then after a bit it
Sounds like you have it on a sort of "anamorphic" screen zoom. My dtv converter box has a setting where you can adjust the aspect ratios, etc. It may be the same idea for you. I would check under the "zoom" menu or screen preferences.
Good luck!
