Red color on screen is warped on my LCD projector TV.

Normally the oily fluid coming from a picture tube, is the coolant from the tube. It's very combustible and have been known to start a fire. You have two problems in this set. A leaking blue picture tube. A convergence circuit that needs repaired. Call a local servicer and see if they will give you an estimate over the phone. It's time to start looking for a new digital set. Good Luck.

Where is the reset button on a 50u by 58b projection tv

If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address. Here are the symptoms...Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off.Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.Hope this helps,

My 1993 50in. hitachi ultravision

drcr5deep,

If your unit is truly a 1993 model I'm amazed that it still turns on at all. Usually projection units quit after about 10 to 12 years and are worn out. Judging by the age of the unit the most likely problem area is the high voltage section. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6396176-projection_tv_troubleshooting which explains how to troubleshoot this section and I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6981868-replace_circuit_board_in_modern_tvs which explains how to remove and replace a circuit board if it becomes necessary to change out the deflection board.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Hi, I am having a problem

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Yes. It may take some time and some patience. You will have to seek and find a TV repair business. They may have or know of another shop that may have the same TV they use as salvage. Just like an auto salvage, there are TV's out there for salvage. I'm not real excited about purchasing new from manufactures....the prices are too expensive. And E-bay may not be a wise choice. The best solution is to locate a TV shop near you. Thanks for asking and show few hands of support!

There is a yellow gost

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.
