Intermittent blue streak on the right side of the

amikeq,

You may be experiencing the beginings of a failing convergence system. To align the beam there are two ICs which take the stored positions, set by you during a convergence alignment, and move the beams to line up on the green beam for a good picture. When the ICs fail your set will look 3D but in your case you may just be seeing a partial and intermittent failure exposing the blue beam momentarily. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains all this and how to repair the unit as well as where to get the parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

Have red line running horiontally

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

I have a Hitachi 43FWX20B that is about 8 years

It will be a major problem if you have to find parts for it.Sometimes people get the wrong type of TV so I would like you to verify that it is indeed a rear projection. If it is,they are completely obsolete.I have researched 3 or 4 of them and no matter who made them, there are no parts left.I am currently in way deep with a person who wants to attempt to fix a 61" because of it's sentimental value. That is borderline sane I think.Just finding proper parts will be next to impossible. If you are in a position to buy a new TV,please do not say yes or no yet to my solution or it cuts off our communication I think.Just comment about the rear proj. and I will get an autolink to your post and reply. There are supposed to be some real good deals on LCD's this holiday because of overstock.I will tell you a couple of things to look for if you think you will do that.Greg

Hi, I have a Hitachi 43FWX20B and the picture

As you said your set uses 3 crt's red.blue and green.. not lamps.. If the red is not on it could be for several reasons other than the crt itself. From the driver ic located on the crt driver board attached to the neck of the red tube. It could also be the high voltage block or the anode lead going from the hv block to the crt itself. These carry a hefty voltage and will knock you on your but and make every filling in your mouth light up lol.. I recommend you having someone experienced check it out. As for the fluid, if the picture was good before it went out then that wouldnt be something to worry about. Removing the tubes to refill with fluid requires a massive alignment job afterwards.

How can chang sony tv

if it is a sony check to see if any of those little green resistors are blown first. most sonys have the stk chips on the main deflection board.they will be next to each other with a big heat sink on each.have a soldering and desoldering iron ready as well as tape and marker for the wires.. remove the wires from the board you dont have to take the board all the way out. start desoldering each pin. if some pins are stuck just touch the pin with the iron. clean the heat sinks.apply themal paste to the new ics. put the new ics through the holes and start soldering. this part can be tricky. put the tip on the pin the solder will flow just quickly remove the solder then the iron 36 times and your done.

Hitachi 43FWX20B

I have a similar pblm. But your first step is to power on with tv's button. Look into the back through holes and look for 4 green and 1 red LEDs lit. If not there are 3 fuses on the power supply board.Fuses can be easily changed.
next step call service.

Color seperation

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. Here are some photos of convergence problems.

e87380c.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Hitachi 43fwx20b. Blue color will not reset in

the convergence is an automatic adjustment. if the auto isn't working after you tell it too from user menu, then the convergence amp is not working. this requires a tech or a good hobbiest. most of these amps are just ( stk's ) chips 3 in the unit you should replace all 3 making sire there is enough heatsink compound on them.

Who do you perform manual

Hi,

SET UP
45
SETUP
Your HITACHI Projection TV has three color projection tubes: one for red, one for green, one for blue. When mixed together in the
proper proportion, the output of these three color tubes can produce any color. To produce these colors, however, the beams must be
precisely aligned over each other so that the colors can be mixed. The process of aligning these picture beams is called òconvergenceó.
Over a period of time, the picture tubes can drift out of alignment due to normal bumps and vibrations or moving the TV. If you move
your TV, or if, after a time, you notice color rings or halos around objects in the picture, you may want to converge (align) the colors.
Properly converged, the lines appear white, which is actually a combination of the outputs of the three color tubes. The output of the
green tube is stationary. The outputs of the red and blue tubes can be adjusted. When properly aligned, the outputs of all three tubes
should be directly over each other to produce the white lines.
To simplify convergence, HITACHI incorporates a function called MAGIC FOCUS located on the front control panel, which allows the
TV to self-adjust. Press this MAGIC FOCUS button and the convergence self adjustment willl start and this process will take
approximately 15 seconds. If this button is pressed during this process, no change in picture quality will occur. After this 15 second
self-adjust period, picture quality will be optimum. (Do not move the TV during self-adjust.)
You may also select MAGIC FOCUS from the SETUP Menu.
NOTES: Only a momentary press of the MAGIC FOCUS button is necessary to start AUTO DIGITAL CONVERGENCE. At
anytime during this convergence correction process, you may press the MAGIC FOCUS button to exit the MAGIC
FOCUS mode.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
