Hitachi 61UWX10B 61" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
Hitachi 61UWX10B 61 in. Rear Projection
Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com
Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

62 in tv no sound
Hi there,
Your description of the problem lacks some essential details, but I will try to give you an answer. If my answer does not solve the problem, you will need to provide me with some further details.
The most common cause of this problem is not the TV. If you are using a cable or satellite receiver it is not unusual for the software/firmware in these receivers to "crash" and stop sending audio to the TV.
If you are using a cable/satellite receiver or a digital converter, please try re-setting it. Some of these devices have a "RESET" button on the front or back. If you can find a reset button, try pressing this and then wait for the receiver to "re-boot". If you don't have a reset button, switch the receiver to standby, then unplug it from the electrical outlet for a couple of minutes before plugging it back in and trying it again. This is often sufficient to solve this problem
If you don't have a cable/satellite receiver and/or this does not solve your problem, please reply to me from within this page with the following details:
1. Brand and model number of cable/satellite receiver or digital converter - if using one.
2. Do you have sound from any another external input, e.g. a DVD player.
3. What were the circumstances in which the sound output on your TV failed.
Hope this helps - please supply the information requested above if you need further assistance.
Thanks,
BElectric
The convergence is off on
The chips and 12 resistors need to be replaced, below is a link where
you can find them. I've done business with them. They're very reasonable
and give you step by step instructions to fix it yourself.

Flashing LED
<< Back to Quick Fixes Page
If your set all of a sudden won't come on, e.g., the screen is blank, but the LED on
the under the screen next to the on/off switch keeps flashing, then there may be an
internal fault on the set that needs to be reset.
To force the reset, try this:
- Unplug the set and wait a few seconds
- Replug and see if the video returns
Whenever the set senses an internal fault through its monitoring circuitry, it
essentially shuts down the set. The flashing LED provides the indication that a
fault has been detected. Removing power to the set resets the monitoring
circuitry. When plugged back in, the circuitry again does a check of the
system. If it finds that there truly is a problem, then the set is shut down and the
LED will again flash.
I have the same problem with a 61uwx10b. I
the ics could have been defective, or maybe you missed a resistor or something. the ics could short out and cause the tv to totally shutdown if dead shorted, as some of these have no fuses. I would doublecheck all your solder connections and make sure nothing is shorted out and look for other bad resistors. here is my tutorial if this helps

No sound
This is a model that had a lot of problems with the audio.
I worked on a lot of them when they were first made and sold.
What happened was some idiot had the bright idea of placing the entire audio circuit on a single small circuit board mounted on the left inside wall of the set (as you look from the back).
All sound from all inputs and the tuners goes into and out of this board and they mounted the audio output IC chip directly over a number of large surface mounted chips---heat from the chip damages solder connections all over the area around it.
Hitachi did have a service bulletin about this which basically said resolder everything---hundreds of fine connections---surface mounted means most of the fifteen or more chips are mounted on the top or bottom and are soldered to the board---not through the board as is usually the case.
I have seen technicians try to repair them and spend hours and not have success. The board is no longer available from Hitachi and the only way to get it fixed now is to remove it and send it to a national company called PTS Electronics who repairs and rebuilds all kinds of circuit boards.
The last one of these sets I saw was in the shop I work for and we did not fool around as it was under extended warranty---turnaround for the board (you have to remove the one in your set and send it to them) was about 7-10 days and cost was about 150 dollars but you can find their address on the net and ask for a quote---Part number for the Surround Audio board is:
X480233
Let me know if you have questions or need advice.
PS: I have seen two people who got around this problem by getting a surround sound system fed directly for audio from their cable box, this may be a much less expensive way to settle this issue.

have you reched around the new soldering area carefully, check for solder spills or drops in the printed circuit, also another thing to look for is some of those replacement stk do not hold their weight, you might want to take them out and try the old ones to see if you recover tv power.

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll need to reset the Projection TV and to reset it
follow these steps—
1. Turn off the television and wait for 5 minutes.
2. After 5 minutes unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the television remain without power for more then 1 minute.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. If the television is
plugged into a power surge protector, remove it from there and plug it directly
into the wall outlet. Turn on the television. If the issue is resolved, then
the problem is with the power surge protector and not the television.
If the issue is not resolved then this might
have happened due to over-voltage. Please check the power supply unit for
swollen/bulged capacitors and burnt wires/components on the power supply board
of your TV. You should try and turn off the TV for 8-10 hours to reset it. Please make sure to turn off and
unplug the TV for at least 1 hour (this will drain off current from
all components especially capacitors) before you perform any repairs. Also note
that the TV consists of very high voltages even when it is in OFF condition. All
this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to
solder/re-solder components.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for
further assistance.
Thanks
Rylee

You have a convergence problem.
Go into the menu and you should find a convergence alignment menu, try to align it there, if you can`t then you probably need local help from a tv repairman.
good luck

Hi,
Please intimate exact model number of your Hitachi TV to check its schematics for possible cause of problem and its solution. Without correct model it is no possible to have an idea what kind of TV do you have.
Thanks.
