Your convergence ic's are defective along with the bias resistors.

I know this set pretty well--it is not designed to be connected to a computer in any way---just not possible.

No, but almost any Hitachi remote for their projection sets will work--different Hitachi remotes use different buttons in the DECAM or advanced convergence adjust mode.

Tell me the model number and I am fairly sure I can tell you the part number of the correct remote. These remotes can be purchased new or used on Ebay at fairly low prices 15-30 dollars.

Yes, you should do so.

I would not lay it on it's side unless there is no other option. Then I would be very careful. TVs should be transported right side up.

It may possibly be something minor, The sad truth is most repair shops will charge the 100 or so dollars to diagnose and then they will want to replace entire circuit boards at several hundred instead of replaceing the failed component. Do you have any experience with troubleshooting electronic circuits? As it may just be a regulator that has failed in the stand by supply circuits.

There are two common problems with these sets.

Problem #1) Convergence

Symptoms:

• Screen Looks 3D
• Colors wont align
• Video may look distorted

Problem #2 CRT Fluid has clouded over. Symtoms

• Dull looking video
• White looking video
• Halos around objects
• Red/Orange looking video

Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s)

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

This is common problem with rear projection TVs and this kind of symptom comes when convergence section gets problem, specially convergence out ICs (two ICs) got damaged.
This problem is not related with Wii or any other video source.
Need to replace 2 convergence out ICs in TV, qualified TV tech will do this job.

You can remove the front speaker grill(if pulls off--I own one just like yours) and behind it you will find an inspection plate. Remove the plate--The part you are looking for is almost dead center near the front on a metal heat sink with fins---the location marked on the top of the board in front of it will be I601------the number on the 13 pin IC will be LA7838---a 4 dollar part.

You will need to unbolt and pull the entire chassis back and lift up so the bottom of the boards are facing the back of the set(you will need to undo several wires that are bundled up in plastic ties to get it out--) I have seen the same problem in my set and many others--usually a good idea just to replace the chip--need a little heat sink compound to put on the metal back if you replace it--solder and a good soldering iron.

This kind of repair usually takes me about 15 minutes or so.


These are very dependable sets and if you can do it yourself --very cheap to fix--if not able to do it yourself shop around your area--tell them you need the LA7838 vertical chip replaced (some will just solder it up but considering the cost of the part it is better to just replace it)


If you want to prove it is your problem--with the inspection plate off use a screwdriver (with the set on) and tap on the heat sink with the plastic or wood handle--if you see the problem come and go--you know what the trouble is-----I have seen about 100 of these sets with this problem.

sounds like your relay to your power switch

resolder the vertical deflection i.c. also replace elecrolytic capacitor in the vertical circuit.

The light bulb inside the TV could be burned out. This is the first thing that you need to check. If the bulb looks fine, then the next thing to check are the voltage section or the deflection amplifiers. The possible cause could be overloaded power supply current and the protection circuit going into action to shut down the set.

You will need the services of a tech that has the proper equipment to diagnose it.

The consultation or repair cost could be the standard price of $50, this is for repair only, price of the component that needs to be replace is excluded.

Sounds like a capacitor on the power supply is bad. Easy fix.

This is a problem with the vertical output IC's and associated capacitors. The solution is to replace the IC (usually LA7838) and 2 capacitors (100uF @35V and 220uF @35V).

sure sounds like loose solder joints, look for them in the deflection circuit, just find the hard plastic encapsulated body with the thick red wire sticking out of it thats where usually the loose solder joints develop.

This is a common problem. Your convergence has gone out.

Common symptoms are...

1) 3D Video
2) Warped Video
3) Convergence menu does not adjust the red or blue correctly.

If you have video for the menu, then probably you aren't on the correct selection for your video source. What are you trying to watch and how is it connected to your television? S-Video, Composite (Y with separate RW audio) or Component (RGB).

Note: DO NOT connect standard VIDEO or S-VIDEO to Input 2 when using Y-CbCr (Component) input.
