YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT INPUT

IF YOU HAVE CABLE, YOU HAVE TO HAVE TV ON CHANNEL 3 AND USE CABLE REMOTE

SOUNDS LIKE A CONVERGENCE PROBLEM.

you will need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-110 you will also need six resistors (2) 2.2 ohm 1watt
(2) 1.5 ohm 1watt, (1) 3.3 ohm 1watt and (1) 1.8 ohm 1watt.

Take a look a the video below to determine if you have a true convergence problem or if you can make the adjustment through the menu feature on your TVs original remote.

If the model number indicated here is correct that set uses 3 picture tubes.No bulb used on that model.If model number is correct let me know and I have a few suggestions.

Solution:
Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from www.TvRepairKits.com.
They have put together a kit for the Hitachi TV sets.
The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

Is the standby light blinking? If so how many times? It could help narrow down where the problem is. At this point it could be anywhere. Most likely in the high voltage section. Get me more info and I will try to help.

The Hitachi 61SDX01B only has an NTSC tuner (analog). You will need a set-top box to watch digital (ATSC (OTA) or QAM (unencrypted digital cable) signals. For OTA signals, the digital-to-analog converter boxes that were sold with the government coupon were limited to SD output. HD converter boxes are available but cost more.

Customer may have either a problem with cable box if set does not do this via DVD or may have another problem causing this; customer will reply via this link so we can narrow it down more. Problem usually goes away in a few minutes but it varies.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hi Tim,

If the symptom didn't cure by convergence adjustment through the remote control, the problem is in the convergence board inside. The common parts fault is the convergence IC and some of the resistor once isolated and replace with new one, your unit will back to normal again. If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a technician to fix the problem.
