Hitachi 51F510 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Color is too dark
Unplug the TV,remove the front panel to gain access to the CRT sockets - loosen the screws that hold the sockets to the necks of the CRT's - now unplug and replug each socket from each CRT - this will remove any dust resistance on the pins of the CRT's - after doing this, the brightness level should go up.
Blue Hue and lines on HDTV
what more can you describe as to the fault of the unit.is the blue hue there on all inputs and tuner mode and the lines are they also blue in color .
CONVERGENCE AMP
average price for the repair is around 400.00, sounds like there is an extra charge because of the distance involved.
Protective screen
I replaced the screen on my 62 inch big screen for about $50 and the picture is very good! You simply need to purchase a piece of plexiglass from a glass shop or hardware store and have it cut to the EXACT dimensions you require for your
TV. NEXT the plexiglass must be FROSTED. This can be done by a fine particle sandblaster or power sander with a fine grade paper. I used a power sander and sanded BOTH sides methodically and vertically on BOTH sides. I recommend buying a couple of 12 inch wide strips to test which method pleases you most by placing them in the path of the projected image where the old screen was removed. In any event, I recommend frosting BOTH sides.
Screen image goes out
sounds like a problem or cold solder connections in the video section or b+ vlotage missing muting the video.
MY SON TORN MY VIEWING SCREEN
The screen can be replaced. You must call the manufacture to find out who the service rep is for your area. Some of the small service shops can also perform this type of repair.
As for a protection screen, I have not seen one. After you have the original screen replaced, maybe you can have a large piece of acrylic cut and fitted to the front of the set. This will be expensive. Anything extra in front of the screen will lessen the quality of the picture that you see.

The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT's.....you may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......
Projection TV problem
sounds like the vertical deflection is causing the CRTs to blank cause you still have sound and on screen displays. Try resoldering the vertical output IC see if that helps. If not you may need a new vertical output IC. Let me know if i can assist you further.
Hitachi 51F510
Same problem but mine goes black for long periods. Menu prompts still available and volume "meter" on screen is still visible. Have rerouted cable, changed outlets, all to no avail.
Picture too big for screen
Try the aspect on both the TV remote and the Cable/Dish remote. In the setttings there is an aspect setting as well
Won"t stay on
Something is out of tolerance in the horizontal deflection circuit. You should try resoldering the horizontal output and driver transformer. If that doesnt help you will need to troubles shoot the deflection circuits. If you need a link to get a good quality service manual for your model let me know and I will post a link.
