iRiver iHP-120 MP3 Player Questions & Answers
Problems with my iHP-120 iRiver mp3 player
Good chance it is the hard drive - that's a fairly old technology. I have heard of some people having some success replacing the HD with a compact flash card on some older mp3 players, I seem to recall the connector is the same. I guess if you have a suitable CF card reader, you may be able to remove the hard drive and check it out with the reader - there are some hard drive diagnostic tools out there you can try. Gibson research's spinrite was pretty good back in the day, not sure it is still useful for more modern drives.
Reboot my h120
every time you turn on h120 (it will reboot)...update by itself...unless you get stuck while playing (freezes)...you will need a little needle/ safety pin to stick in the tiny hole on the bottom of the h120.......just tap it and take the pin out...player will shut down and start up by its self........feel free to rate the help
Computer cant find my iriver 120

the usb port of your pc and put the installer cd of
your device into the cd drive and install the driver
and plug your device on the cable.
Recording setting
live recording (using mic) can be great depending on the speakers and your position from it .(dj live up close on the speaker can be destorted) your recording setting should be 1/4 up since the dj most likely is full. TRIED NOT TO RIDE THE '0" RECORDING MARK. the bars while recording should be tapping '0'.the mic on the iriver is quite powerful . now if you are using a line in option (this will take out the liveiiness)
Iriver IHP 120 taking 15 minutes to boot
your hard drive is just fine (i have a ihp100 with a 30 gb). it all depends on the amout of track and type files on the ihp -120. but getting back to speeding up your boot time (try ROCKBOX)
www.rockbox.org you can still have your 120 with a less than 30 second boot up time, customize equalizer, while playing screens and more. and you are right the new players do match up to ours.
if this is helpful feel free to rate
I an trying to use the voice recorder on my iHP-120
Press and hold button on left side with red dot (record)... You will see "stand by"... Press the lowest button on right side (A-B) over and over until "source" is "int Mic"... when you are ready to record, press the left button w/ the red dot short and quick... recording will begin. When youre ready to stop recording, press middle button (pic of square on it) on right side... that will stop it.
To find your recording, look in the "record" folder under "Audio"
IHP120 20gb multicodecjukebox-voice recording
Sir,
I solved the problem .Actually under the SOURCE title it was under the LINE IN.There were some more options like INT.MIKE, EXT.MIKE, OPTICAL. So i first tried under external mike by connecting to the EXT.mike and selected the source and by removing the external mike switched to Int. mike and changed the source. It automatically picked according to the source and played the recording and saved it in the file and later heard the lecture with the head phone and later converted in to a file in the laptop. Now it is working nicely. A really a good product to make use and it is very much user friendly.
Thanks again.

IHP-120
have you tried playing it in ole iriver style (not rockbox). to see if you really did delete something. and if so go to
www.iriver.com and download the the last firmware you had to rebuild. and hopefully you can come back to rockbox latest version also. its just a very late suggestion. oh yeah one more do you know of any one who has a 120 as yours (you can copy theirs software, but you will have to format yours in order for it to work correctly)

You can get a replecement on Ebay or at Maplins the spec is
In: 100-240V~50-60Hz 360mA

be careful I once fried an IHP-120 by using the wrong charger. I replaced the battery but taht wasn't the issue. I had it replaced with a IHP-140 and now my old charger has gone too. I got a replacement through the company I bought it from but they have none left.

I got a battery box where 3 AA fit in Maplin. I bought just in case I run out of battery in a camping hike. It works. However, Maplin is a good place to get a replacement

Wheres my music gone?
Hi,
Just had the same problem myself with an ihp120 I just bought off ebay. Here are the steps I took:
1. Prolific swearing
2. Prolonged sulk
3. Internet research
(I assume you have already been through these 3 to get to this stage)
4. I connected it to my PC via the USB lead - I could see all the files on the ihp120 and I backed them up to my hard drive.
5. In windows I right clicked the hard drive, to do a check for errors in the hard drive and to fix them -
It got about 80% of the way through, then the battery ran out - best to
check that first. When I turned it on again, 90% of the files
were back and visible on the mp3 player.
So basically, back up the files, charge it fully, do a disc error check in windows.
Good luck
