I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble.

What does the label show for a manufacturing date?

If your unit is at least 5 years old, then you are one of the lucky owners whose machine did not fail in the first 12 or 18 months. The problem has been so widespread that at one time JVC was repairing these out of warranty. To my knowledge they are no longer doing that. Most of the units that were shipped back to JVC had the power supplies replaced while others only had a few resistors changed, it depended on the particular revision.

In any case this would need to be professional serviced and in most cases would probably be more economical, based on the history of this model, to look into purchasing a new unit.

JVC had several issues with this model, one of which was the power supply not providing clean enough power. Other issues included firmware updates and other power related problems. Since your unit has gone this long, chances are there are components such as electrolytic capacitors that are enough out of spec that the circuits cannot function properly. You might be lucky enough to hit on one time when replugging might work, but it will get to a point where that will fail as well.

I am sorry to be a bearer of bad news, however if unplugging and replugging does not resolve the issue, you need to get the unit serviced / replaced.

sounds like your laser needs looking at.

its possible the laser needs cleaning.its not reading the data on
the disc. use a soft non fluffy cloth.be gentle when cleaning a
laser.also ensure all power is off before attempting this job....

The reason your DVD player is not reading disc is because the lens is not reading the disc.

The reason the lens is not reading the disc is either because the lens is weak or dirty.

Try to clean the lens with a lens cleaner.
test it with a DVD, to see if it will work.

If it does not work, then the lens is weak and needs replacement.

to replace the lens,

open the player with the appropriate screwdriver, open the disc tray, and replace the lens with a new lens, test it with a DVD disc.

test it with a DVD disc.

Asuming you bought in the UK it is region 2. There is software to unlock the region code but this was being sold as a CD on ebay and I really can't recommend that you down that route. James

Check for dried up electrolytic capacitors on the DC-DC converter C5318, C5340, etc.

turn off and unplug from power outlet, let sit a few minutes....then plug in power up, check JVC home page on net to see if they have problems with these, could be a disc stuck in unit....if door will not open, take back to where you bought it....I have a Pioneer but I did take the cover off and a DVD was stuck in side, I managed to carefully remove it....it is a slow process as everything is made from plastic

Most major brands have a simple method of updating Firmware. You download the FW file, burn it to a disk. Put the disk in the player. The player will recognize the update and handle the update. It may take some time as some files are large.

Warning: Updating with the wrong version of Firmware, or if the process is interrupted, it can render you player useless.

Find the version your player is currently using. Then go to JVC Support to see if there is a newer version available. Hope this helps.

My DR-MH-20 keeps saying "RELOADING" when I turn it on. I can't get it out of that mode. Any suggestings?

ciao! tutti vittime del dvd rec [jvc dr mh20-]..jvc dr mh 30...jvc dr mh 50..e un risolvere dell problema di LOADING...il mio jvc dr mh30..di 6 mese e roto ..ma trovo risolvere..difetto e nel hdd,160gb..e in corrozione..e roto hardisk,solo sistema operativo.......con softer COPY CLONE PRO..free da iternet.scarica nell cd room..nel avvio dell pc,che sono due hdd,uno rotto ,e uno buono..guarda instruzione dell cd..e tutto ok,per copy di hdd..e tutto ok per legare poi nell dvd rec jvc dr mh 30..ho provato io e tutto ok...ma io ho trovato hdd dell dvd rec jvc dr mh20..e io ho un dvd rec jvc dr30..ce un problema picollo dopo copy cloner,,mio dvd rec mi conosci solo 80gb..ma perche e in origine da dvd rec jvc dr mh20[80gb]..cercho un hdd di dvd rec drm h30..opure jvc dr mh50..per copy cloner,mio hdd,per conosciere 160gb..opure 250gb..atentti problema di LOADING..e nell due alimenti di hdd..e suporte di dvd..sono quattro line..12v..terra..terra..5v....sono simille anche perhdd..anche per suporte dvd..controla nel condizione di LOADING..se non sono precise..voltaggio..persempio..12v=10v..opure 5v....4.2v..e perdita..da un contesatore electrolitica.e asciugato da lavoro fastidiosa.......se aiuto da poco..non lo so aspettiamo nell mio e-mail....arivederci[ [email protected] ]

Try switching off, unpluging and then plugging in again. This will reboot system. Switch on once reboot has finished and try eject.
