Have message bulb needs replacing but is that what

Do you know if your tv is DLP or Liquid Crystal over Silicon, or just LCD, if it is Liquid crystal the green one could be failing, if it is DLP you may need a color wheel. I doubt a new bulb will fix that problem

Did you replace the resistors with the ICs? Often a JVC will blow at least one resistor when the ICs fail.

I am seeing a big blue streak across my JVC AVwp74

Hi,

This is a common problem in rear projection TV. This situation is highly suggestive of Blue LCD panel failing in light engine.Repair would be around $600.Labor is usually $200.

This could be a component failure. But, it is certain that it would cost you more than $400 to get this repaired. The ball is in your court. If the TV is more than 4 years old and cost of repair is more or equivalent to the cost of the new TV, it is better to invest in new.Rest, the decision is all yours.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Red and Green vertical lines (pinstripes) on video source only!

I had this problem, I just fixed it myself. I'm am not a tech or a pro by any means, but I am short on funds and repairs were not in the budget. I figured I had nothing to lose so I wanted to share what I did and maybe help someone out. This is to be done at your own risk, you could shock yourself or break something else.
First off, I had the conversion circuit changed a few years back. These TVs are famous for them going out, so I knew it wasn't that.
I removed the back of the TV and the plastic part that houses' the connections (RCA jacks, S-video,etc) Behind that there is a circuit board standing vertitcally incased in a metal case. I simply wiggled it back and forth and the lines went away. That told me that something was going on there.
I removed the circuit board that had the RCA jacks to make some room( I would'nt force anything in there, take your time and be sure to unclip the circuit board) I then unscrewed the "metal case" and took it apart. I dusted everything and put it back together exactlly how I took it apart. I then cleaned the lenes.
It works great now and it only cost me a hour of my time. The picture is as good as new. I hope this helps somebody.

Bowed flickering green screen, black on bottom

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Picture has a narrow funnel

Your convergence ICs are fried. You are gonna have to get replacement ICs and solder them in. You should also check the surrounding resistors that may have caused the failure in the first place. How good is your experience in handling HV electronics?

SCREEN IS FLASHING GREEN ON THE TOP AND BLACK ON

If the bottom half is all black, it could be bad solder connections on IC 103 in the I-P convert module, p/n SSB0D053A-M2 (previous part number was SSB0D051A-M2 which is no longer available) and if you can find this part in stock, expect it to cost about $675.00 or so.  Not an easy fix to do.

The red color will not lined up with the green and

You need to set the Convergence of the TV set.

Some TV sets have a Magic Focus on the front panel, if yours has this press it with the TV on.

If your TV does not have the Magic Focus button, go in to the menu and there should be an Advanced Setup option ether in the main menu or under the video setup menu. Then find set Convergence. You will need to be directly in front of the TV set and at the normal distance away (where you usually view it from) use the arrows on the remote to move the color i.e. green, red, blue so that it disappears behind the white + (cross). this must be done for all of the mentioned colors.
