When i turn my tv

In the absence of audio and video, the likely culprit is the main power supply which services both. Plasma sets use an output of the main supply to produce the high voltage required by the plasma display which has attributes similar to the older CRT displays in the use of high voltage and internal phosphor to convert electron flow into light. The main supply may be a separate assembly. If you feel adventurous, pull the AC plug overnight and remove the back panel of the set. Look for a smaller board with fewer, but larger, components on it. There may be another separate smaller board that produces the high voltage for the display but it is probably OK but not receiving service voltage from the main supply.
If you can find an assembly number on the main supply, you may be able to buy or exchange it for a repaired unit and do the swap yourself.

Present your case to LG customer care ASAP. So close to out of warranty, they may at least cover parts. you will almost certainly in the first instance be referred to an authorised repairer.

I have an LG plasma model# DU-42PY10X that seems

Hi,

This is a common problem on these sets. As the menu is fine, this is highly suggestive of an internal failure.you have a driver board failing if you would open the set and on the left side is the Y-sustain board there are two boards connected to the Y SUS board. The one on the top drives the top half of the picture and the one on the bottom drives the lower half of the picture open the ribbon cables make sure to clean it or Re solder if you see needed turn set on and test, sometimes cleaning this will fix problem sometimes re soldering will fix problem and last resort is, the board itself is bad.Unfortunately, you need to diagnose and inspect all the components before replacing any part.If you wish to repair it yourself, i could give you a link to buy the service manual and would upload a troubleshooting chart ( generic ) that would explain how you need to diagnose the fault when you open the TV.However, there is no quick fix. It has to be opened and tested and then diagnosed.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The tv is only 4 days new and it is making a loud

You should return it. The Plasma display is vibrating. Mfgs found this out by sets that were moved from sea level or 500ft above to Colorado. The vibration was terrible. I have not heard if that problem has been rectified or not. In any event, return it.

My tv has audio but

Is this the case for all inputs on the TV? Meaning with regular TV viewing, DVDs, and anything else that you have attached, everything displays no picture whatsoever but sound works? And this is definitely coming from the speakers in your TV not surround sound speakers, correct?

Also, when you press a button such as MENU / SETUP, or even VOLUME UP / DOWN on the tv's remote does it appear on screen as if it is doing that function? Does that part of the video display work at least?

Please let me know, just reply to my answer here and I will continue to help you for sure..

Thanks,
Tim

My LG 42"tv shuts off by it self

hello, The best way to fix this is by opening the back cover of the television set.
The power light may be flashing or if you are runing with a series light bulb it may be cycling on and off continuously. There may be a chirping or clicking sound from inside the set. (Note: using too small a series light bulb load during testing for the size of the TV may also result in this condition.)
If there is a low voltage regulator or separate switching supply, it could be cycling on and off if the horizontal output, flyback, or one of its secondary loads were defective.
Does this TV have a separate low voltage regulator and/or switching power supply or is it all part of the flyback circuit? For the following, I assume it is all in one (most common).
Some simple things to try first:
Verify that the main filter capacitor is doing its job. Excessive ripple on the rectified line voltage bus can cause various forms of shutdown behavior. An easy test is to jumper across the capacitor with one of at least equal voltage rating and similar capacitance (make connections with power off!).
Use a Variac, if possible, to bring up the input voltage slowly and see if the TV works at any point without shutting down. If it does, this could be an indication of X-ray protection circuit kicking in, though this will usually latch and keep the set shut off if excessive HV were detected.

Brand new lg plasma 60

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

The are a couple of possibilities here including the logic board, lower "Y" board, lower "Y" buffers, and PDP panel. The "Y" is divided into into the lower and upper half of the screen. An experienced technician can quickly isolate the fault upon inspection and verify the supply voltages.

Thank you for using Fixya, and if I can be of further assistance please let me know.

The sound works but the picture don't show

Hi
This is more than likely your Y Sustain board that has failed.
Take the back of your tv and look to the left hand side, you will see a main board connected to 2 x buffer boards that connect to the screen via ribbons.
Take the part number of the main board and Google or Ebay for a replacement.
98% of the time this will cure your problem.
Hope this helps

Pop-then no brightness

Does your picture look really, really, dark? If so, your Z-SUS board (right side with the back cover off, attached to the panel by wide copper ribbons) has failed. You can simply replace the board and be on your way. You should use the PN found on the part (white sticker with a 2D barcode). It will look something like this: 6871QZH033A
