Vertical lines with no picture on a RU-42PX10C LG

You can either use test equipment etc or start guessing----most likely board would be main board that controls screen and all information viewed there.Want to see what boards it may have: shopjimmy.com

Wha t is a y drive

If issue is different after replacing a board--suspect new board is bad or not the correct one. I see a lot of people here guessing and buying and replacing boards and having little or no success. While a guess may get lucky these sets are not really "repaired" in this fashion--tests are made with scope, signal generator, etc and a specific board is then tried.

Hi that wold indicate a problem with one of your sustain boards. Most likelly the y-sus but it could be either one. You can find parts for this TV at www.interliquidparts.com remember when ordering parts you have to go by part number of the part.

42" Plasma, no picture, sound

Hi:
The best possible solution to your problem is to replace both sustain boards at the same time, The X and Y sustain boards. LG tech support recommends replacing the digital board as well when replacing their boards, even during LG's tech training seminars they suggest you replace all major boards for continued viewing enjoyment. But in my experience you should replace the X systain also, but make sure the Y you replaced is still good.

42" LG Plasma HD Ready

This is a common fault solution which can be checked and corrected by you assuming that there is no component failure. This can be due to faulty capacitors that have gone weak and resumes the value after some time when the cotlage builds up. Also there is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance.

The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on , If there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points.

Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up, if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault.

Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections. Sometimes large IC's- ones with more pins- tend to have drying in some pins and so cause faults related to the IC's protocol. Have a rough idea of looking into the areas to reduce the time of probing.

Check for tips to look into the SMPS unit with some of my tips:

Have a problem with my 42 plasma, has sound and

To determine what is causing our TV to lose it's picture you would have to do some basic troubleshooting. The areas of concern for that particular model with that issue would be the Power Board, the connectors to the board, fuses on the Y & Z Boards, and so on. Once you have run the tests to determine the parts that need to be replaced you would need to find out the availability of those parts in the area that you are from. The TV is of the age that the cost of repairing it may actually be more than the cost of purchasing a brand new set. Due to downturns in the economy sales of plasma, LCD, and led TV's is much slower than anticipated. This has brought the cost of the new units dramatically.

In closing, do your troubleshooting to identify the parts that need replacing and check their cost and availability. Compare to the local cost of a new TV and that should help you to decide which way to go.

I have sound, but screen

What you most likely need is this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LG-Y-SUSTAIN-SUS-BOARD-RU-42PX10-RU-42PX10C-PLASMA-/400195756638?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2d86a25e

There's a minor chance it may be something else, but with the sporadic problem appeareance it would be impossible to diagnose remotely.

This is the most likely reason for similar problems, but, I repeat, no guarantees.

I am not anyhow affiliated with whoever is selling this. You may be able to find better deals elsewhere.
