LG RH-4820 DVD Recorder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Subtitles always on
Hi - welcome to FixYa,
There are 2 methods for changing the subtitle settings on your DVD player.
Method 1.
To turn off the subtitles on your DVD player during playback:
1. Press the "SUBTITLE" button on your remote control
The subtitle button is just below the "0" (zero) numerical key on the remote control. It is marked "SUBTITLE" above the button and the button has "ABC" written inside a white rectangle on it.
2. Use the left "<" and right ">" arrow keys to change the subtitle setting
Each time you press an arrow key the subtitle language will change and eventually the language will read "OFF". The subtitles are now switched off during playback.
Method 2.
To turn disc subtitles off from the main menu:
1. Press the "MENU/LIST" button on your remote control (directly below "STOP")
The main menu will now appear
2. Press the down arrow key on your remote once to highlight "A" in the left hand column of the main menu
3. Press the right arrow key on your remote once to move to the right-hand column of the menu
4. Press the down arrow twice to highlight "Disc Subtitle"
5. Use the left and right arrow keys to change the subtitle options until your required choice is displayed
6. Once set, press the "MENU/LIST" button again to exit the menu.
This should solve your problem, but if you need any further assistance, please post back.

No turn on but a
Hello,
This message is displayed when the device is checking for its hard drive and DVD drive to signal back that they are operational. You can consider this a bit like the BIOS of a computer as it is waiting for its devices to come back with a "READY" signal. If "PLEASE WAIT" is scrolling across your screen for a really long time it could mean that the two devices with moving parts (HDD / DVD) may be having an issue coming up. UNPLUG unit from wall. Wait for some time (5 min) and then plug it back in. If your device is still not working then you have either a bum HDD or a bum DVD. Considering which one is working all the time (HDD) you probably have a dead hard drive, but my own unit's DVD drive went nuts, so that is also a potential source of the problem.
Either way, your local computer repair store can have a look at this issue, considering what the unit is is basically a single purpose PC

My LG RH4820w DVD player
Sounds like the laser might be going out or dirty. You could try blowing some air in there to try and remove dirt. If that doesn't help then it might be going out.
Hi
My RH4820W is playing up
.It is possible that the unit was hit by a small power surge, and the processor has some garbage in it, and you need to leave it unplug from the wall for 40 MIN, and that will reset back to normal.
Cannot burn DVD properly
have you try copying on a different brand of cd? or better try to copy the file on the minimum speed.
hope this helps
Will not accept DVD RW disks except the LG variety
After reading the manual about ten times realised that this particular machine will only accept -R, or -RW's. We've been trying to work with +R and +RW's ... On one occasion after formatting the disk on a computer (+RW) placed it in machine .. It rejected it... but would not eject it and in consequence we had to literally dismantle the machine to physically remove the disk!!!!
Thanks for your time!

DVD Burning doesn't work..no Disc in Setup..
Been checking out my m/c and found that there are many -r & -rw discs the m/c does not recognise which gives rise to this problem. However the m/c does recognise VERBATIM discs and I have been able to record and dub to them with no problems.
