LG DVD 5183 DVD Player Questions & Answers
Black and white output on analog
No I dont think a defective cable could cause no color but you never know in this world of wacky electronics.. I would first check in the menu and see if theres a video output mode and make sure its in the mode that your tv is Like pal seacam or ntsc.. if this is all in the norm then i would say that you have a croma demod problem in your dvd player and unless you have a scope and a print showing where the croma couples to the video then its time for a pro BUT if it works on the RGB output then you really dont need the video output.

- First, remove the cover of the DVD by loosening all screw from the side and back that holds the top cover.
- Secondly,if your DVD having a top cover to the disc assembly or the disc tray, remove it..If none you need to remove the whole disc assembly from the unit to reveal the cd lens
- Thirdly, after the lens will reveal..Try to clean the lens using cotton buds and don't put any chemical such as alcohol or contact cleaner even water..
- And finally assemble it to test the DVD if it is OK..
I have an " LG DVD 5183" player which no longer
Hi, the only real thing you can try yourself is a cd lense cleaning kit, you can buy these from most computer hardware stores and some discount shops, this may solve your problem as it will clean the laser lense and should get it working again.
if how ever after doing the above it still dont work then this points to the fact that the laser is on its way out and if this is the case then the chances are it would be cheaper to buy a new player.
let me know if you need further assistance ok
plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated answers, thanks
I bought this DVD player from India when I try to
It's because the machine is set up to playback in the PAL standard, which is used in TV and video in other countries. You need to switch it to the NTSC standard that is used in the US. There is a switch on the back of your DVD player that needs to be changed. Switch it to NTSC, and all should be fine.
You can reference the owners manual on the FixYa site by going to the links below:

Hi;help me please about my dvd lg 5183;my dvd
Hi I am Vortash firstly the site you can download all LG software from is listed at the end of this message .
One of the main problems anengineer sees with dvd machines is not reading ?. and 50% of the time there is nothing more wrong with the machine than it needs a good clean of the laser Lens . so before you do anything else invest in a good dvd/cd cleaner and put it in your machine . not only will it give you less trouble it will prolong the life of the machine also .
The problem you seem to be having is that maybe your using DVD's of the wrong region most players can only read one type depending on where you purchased the machine I:e Europe, USA , Asia . etc : 1 for the USA and 2 For europe 5 Kenya and so on so check the label first . I hope this helps with your problem ... Regards Vortash

Dvd player is completely dead.
First thing to check is the power cord with it unpluged. Do you get a resistance there or is it open?? If its no reading at all then the power transformer or fuse or current limiter resistor is open. If you do get a reading then you know your power transformer primary is good. Next measure the AC volts comming from the secondary of the transformer. AC volts? Good! Now Find pin 1 or the end pins on the microprocessor. 5 volts present?? No theres your problem get a schematic and troubleshoot the power supply. Yes 5 volts? Measure the display any volts on it?? Ok im sure by now your gonna say no to one of these and like I said get a schematic and conferm all the voltages are present in the power supply. Most common dead problem in dvd/cd players is the power supply ie transformer, regulator, ic, ect, ect. Good Luck
