Lg dlp power problem
ok this is kinda funny...erk..uhh the reason there was no power was that i had failed to notice there was a safety switch in the lamp access door. if the door is open there is no power so make sure if you are working on it to close the door before trying to power up!!
4" along one side of screen has lower intensity
If Im not mistakin this is a DLP projection system. The problem your describing most likly is not the dlp display chip Your problem sounds like it could be a reflection problem like smoke dirt or dust on the lens or light sheld or light reflector. Im thinking could even be the lamp its self.
Need copy of lamp installation
It was fairly simple. Basically you have 2 screws that hold on the cover panel on the right side of the TV. Once you take off the cover, you'll then see a metal tray with a handle. That has 3 screws, you can then pull out the tray and see the bulb/lamp. The lamp has 3 more screws that hold the little brackets that hold the lamp in place. Last you have the 2 power wires. One is connected by a screw on the left of the lamp, the other is attached by a nut and a washer on the back of the lamp, where you would usually screw in a normal light. The two wires are just connected to a single plug to the right of the lamp which you can remove, you get the new lamp with the wires already attached. All you have to do is plug it in after you mount it back up. Here is the info on purchasing a lamp, sorry but I am still in the process of learning how to reset the lamp indicator light
To reset lamp timer press and hold ENTER or OK on tv display and MUTE on remote at the same time for 5 to 10 seconds, lamp reset box will pop up you can then reset.
Shuts off on its own.
This can be from a number of issues. I must answer you genericaly, because I have no service information for your model type or worked on the model you have.
Common problems that cause power down for the lamp:
Failing power supply, most likely due to components that are changing spec with temperature. These are parts that have become thermo sensitive.
The lamp or its load effect is causing some over heating in the unit, or one or more of the boards themselves are overheating. This can be from a cooling problem. It is very common that maybe a cooling fan is not functioning properly. Faulty components in the power supply, or the lamp supply can also cause this effect.
A defective lamp can also cause the power supply, and or the lamp supply to go in to protection mode.
The service tech would start by replacing the power supply for the lamp, and testing the cooling fan's performance. He will also try a new lamp. If the unit still has a fault he will try the main power supply. The next step is to start replacing modules (boards) to find the one that is cauing too much current pull.
After the unit is serviced and apears to be working, the service tech should run a temperature test on the unit over a number of hours to make sure that there is no overheating. He should also run a current draw test to make sure that the set is in specs.

Screen Flicker
The answer here has to be generic guess. Without properly troubleshooting the set, this is a difficult guess.
This could be a power supply problem, or a clocking problem that deals with the decoding for the field rate.

I have have this TV for almost 3 yrs..now have a shaded area on the left side
The dark side of the screen causes of the lamp alignment or prism glass alignment. This is critical you have to consult your LG technician to do this. But if you have any background o repair consult the service manual. Please careful not to touch the prism quarts so that you maintained the clarity of picture and brightness on the screen.
Picture and Sound fade in an out
4 years? Sounds like the lamp compartment is overheating. Take the covers off the right side (To Access the lamp) and the whole panel on back. This will give you access to the lamp assembly and fans. Get a can compressed air and blow everything out. Try to blow everything towards the right side and pull the lamp and do it seperatly.
