Marantz SR-18EX Receiver Questions & Answers
I cannot turn on my Marantz SR-18EX after a storm
hello do you mean is total dead if so check the glass fuses inside, but beware if you put another 1 in and it blows again then theres a dead short someware also make sure you use the same rated fuses the value will be on the end of the fuse or on the fuse holder on the power board. fingers crossed.
regards

I need the remote control code numbers for the
the best thing to do is a code search per the directv manual and hope the Marantz powers off when you find the code.
If it turns off, you have won half the battle. Save the code and try turning the Mar back on.
The issue is that these universal satellite remotes are very limited on there funtionality with audio systems.
Keep in mind that if you find a code that turns it on & off, you will probably be limited volume only. If you get those three functions, you are very happy and call it done.
Hope this helps.
This goes for all sounds systems and not only Marantz.
Marantz SR18-no sound
I have worked exclusivly on marantz recievers, for the last seven years, the loud 'pop' you heard, and smoke, was 90% that one of the amplifier channels, on the amp block, has blown, and consiquently the unit stays in protect mode. It will power up, and decode audio, and even show an f.m. stereo on the tuner, but you won't get the 'happy click' of the protection relays, until the channel is repaired. also replace the 5fd memory capacitor on the front micro board behind the front panel. If you have someone repair the channel, make sure that the tech resolders all of the connections on the molex connectors on the amp block. there are 10 of them, five male and five female, The bad solder on these are what caused the problem in the first place.
Do you know the remote
The stock remote for the SR-18EX is the RC-18SR - that's the one it shipped with when new. You can also use the RC-2000, RC2000 MkII, and I have an aftermarket RC-1400 that works perfectly with my SR-18EX, AND offers 15 macros instead of the standard 4 you get with the stock remote.
No sound on SR18
One of your five amplifiers has blown its output transistors. Unfortuately, with SR18s, many components down the line from the outputs get fried as well, and (in my experience, anyway) it usually takes hours to track down all the problems. You can still use the unit as a preamp/tuner/surround processor by taking signal out at the pre-out jacks (you have to remove the five jumpers), and feeding it into external power amps, but repairs to the SR18's amp are probably going to be costly and complex. Sorry about the crummy news - hopefully I'm wrong!
Marantz SR-18EX Loses Memory and Has Distortion on Center Ch.
There is a 1 Farad "super capacitor" that needs to be replaced. You need soldering skills to do it. The board is accessible if you remove the front panel of the receiver. The part # is DB-5R5D105; you can get them on eBay for about $2.00 each. Regarding the center channel issue, you may have a bad solder joint on the P781 connector on the P774 board. This is the board that houses the output transistors for the 3-channel main amp board (P704). If not these solder joints, you have a weak driver transistor on P704, and troubleshooting would probably be best left to a pro. Good luck!
I have the SR6200 and I am finding I have to
sounds like you have an issue with the cables/leads from the receiver to the other equipment? try buying a new set of cables and/or check that the pins/plugs are in correctly, they may have been disturbed? wiggle the plugs on the leads at the back of the receiver whilst it is playing music/tv and do the same to the rear of the dvd/tv/cable unit. if you get intermittent increase in the volume it is likely that the cable has a break in one of them? good luck
Marantz SR-18EX; Front left channel crackles
The f-l channel of the sr18, & sr18ex & sr19 is a common failure location due to the heating and cooling over the years. The crackling an/or distortion, is most commonly due to the amplifier going into a high idle, or d.c. offset that can no longer be controlled by the adjustment potentiometers on the board. usually the two 2sc3200 transistors become unstable, and as well a 47mfd and a 470 mfd elect. caps nearby. Also distortion is caused by one or more of the zener and germanium diodes all grouped near the big dual ceramic white resistor. The amp block is held in by six screws. first remove the cross bracket, then cut the cable tie free from the hole on the board. Ten screws hold the top board on, the pull the boards apart from the connectors. before replacing it, resolder ALL of the connector pins to BOTH boards.
On the Marantz SR-18 amp
You have to assign the digital inputs on the setup menu from the remote control while you have the On screen display on a monitor or TV screen.
Marantz SR-18 NO Sound No Data error for DSS (Directv) only
You need to check the connection of the lead that carries the audio from the DSS to the amp, move it to one of the other channels ie vcr and see if it can be heard when set to and switched to vcr. Then we know if we are dealing with the Amp or the source..
Marantz CD5004 tray keeps opening problem
CD/DVD players use a protocol;
Open tray. Insert disk. Tray switch tells mechacon that the tray is shut. Attempt to focus on disk.
If focus is acheived, then it will spin up and try to read the disk otherwise it will ask for a readable disk.
If the tray keeps opening, I would suspect the tray detect switch is malfunctioning, maybe the drive belt has stretched.
