Our tv will not recognize

check in the menu under picture or video settings and see if there is options for the inputs. some tv's allow you to disable inputs for faster switching. if you only have a dvd player but your tv allows for 8 input devices, you're always having to press the button many times to go from tv mode, to dvd, and back. disabling inputs allows you to switch between only what you use.
press menu and navigate to the video settings. if you see "inputs" or "labels", select it and you can probably activate and deactivate inputs. my guess is the one you are trying to connect to isn't "on".
searching internet i really only found places that charge for the manual...here it's $10

My TV won't power on either with the remote or with the manual power on. I hear a clicking noise and it appears that the TV is turning on and off. After several times it stops. Never actually see a picture.

I have a mitsubishi wont turn on clicking noise

is the mitsu tv a crt(picture tube type) or lcd/plasma. If it's the later it could be worth the repair, if it 's a crt type tv it might be that some parts will not be available, but in order to find out you'll need a better description of the type of tv , the size of screen and a better detail of what the problewm sounds like. Another thing that may persuade you to making the decision on wheter to fix or not is how familiar are you with electronic replacement, like desoldering and soldering technics and or location of circuits once you open the tv. Hope this helps

40" Samsung wont turn on

The gradual death you describe is probably caused by the decay of an electrolytic capacitor in the main power supply. It would require a capacitance meter with loss measurement to ferret out the bad part. Eventually, the supply will fail to start at all and leaving it on will cause the weak part to decay faster.
You might want to do some advance research on the cost of a replacement supply which you can probably replace on your own. These are normally on a separate board that will be visually related to the AC coming in and will have larger than average components on it. For safety, leave the AC disconnected overnight before you start doing any surgery; the power supply can deliver a nasty shock if not allowed to discharge.

My tv wont power on

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem on dvd with no receiver box connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic chargesaccumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by themain chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protectioncircuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing statebecause of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

My sharp tv wont turn on

I don't know if you have this problem but I had a similar problem aswell. My TV remote and my universal remote wouldn't turn on or perform any of the funtions as they should. This is what I did to fix it: 1. unplug the TV from the power outlet. 2. take the batteries out of your TV remote. 3. press the power button on the TV remote, and then press every other single button one by one from left to right (as if you were reading a book). 4. plug the power cord back in the power outlet. 5. replace the batteries in your TV remote. 6. try turning on the TV using the factory remote.
These steps, as weird as they sound, worked just fine for me. My TV is now responding to my remote and my cable remote is able to control the TV again. No, I did not loose the universal (cable) remote's TV codes. FYI. the steps mentioned above were performed using the TV native remote (factory remote). Hope this will work out for you as well. And if you are wondering how I knew this would work, well I saw the same steps on another website (sorry I can't remember which website it was) and decided to give it a try before I took the TV back to BestBuy for warranty repair...which would have taken like two weeks.
