CQ56 (2010 PC)
It looks like Windows XP is dead? that it?
Or w7 as many had, it matter, due to the file structures are
not the same. at all.
the fix is easy if you have boot disk or cd or stick
the dos command are easy to command, for fixing any lost boot files.
what makes you think the HDD is even good. I'd not.
not ever.
the hp links are dead to this PC but using google site search
the good is there still and tells you the F11 key works
you boot the pc (turn it on) and hammer the F11 key
and the recovery partitions run.
if not the HDD is corrupted.
the F11 key if working pops a recovery page
pick startup files repair,.
end story
if the hDD is bad the story gets longer,..
the HP site tell me it was W7 new, (did you upgrade it to 10 free last year, we cant guess what is there or how it got there, see?)
I run knoppix boot disk /stick and run disk test here
http://pcdied.com/brick-dead.html#Knoppix
recovering any OS this way, with a bad HDD is a wasted day.
there is no reason to do that. run DISK SMART and TEST THERE.
here are my recover pages.
see startup repair, this fixes the file you said were missing.
mine has and automatic repair option
Turn wireless capability
There should be a button just above the minus key (to the right of the 9 key)that reads F12 which you can press in conjunction with the Fn key ( to the left of the Space Bar key). Doing this should either activate or deactivate the wireless networking on your laptop. White indicates that the wireless is On and Amber indicates it's Off. Below is a link to the User's Guide.

How do i press the f12 key without turning the
You can set the function keys to act as "function Keys" or to work on the pictures that are printed on the function keys. To change it you need to enter the BIOS by pressing a key during the initial boot up of your computer. It will show you on the screen what to press as you boot it up, you usually only have a few seconds. If you don't know how to do it for your computer check your owners manual for how to enter BIOS, once in BIOS look for a setting to "change action key mode" or a reference to function keys. Change this setting then save changes and reboot your computer, that should solve your problem.
Speakers audio
This would indicate an issue with the streaming source. Try another streaming source and check issue. You may need certain plugins etc. to play video/audio.
Reset bios password
there is linux utilitysoftware out there that you can boot and find or reset the bios password or you can disconnect the bios battery for 15 seconds to reset the bios to default.some laptops have a removeable battery you can unplug but most cmos batteries have leads that are soldered onto the motherboard.you would have to use a soldering iron to melt the solder on the positive lead and lift it away from the board.after 15 seconds you can resolder it back in place.
Screen turns pink after login
While in Safe Mode....Go to HP.com, Support, Drivers.... Download the latest video drivers, including the "Chipset" drivers. Then, uninstall all video drivers by going to control panel, (System, Device Manager)Reboot system, hopefully Windows will install the correct drivers upon reboot. After reboot, re-run the new drivers
Cq56 reset bios password
You will have to remove the power cord, remove the batteryand remove the CMOS Battery that is located on the motherboard. On mostcomputers you will have to take the laptop apart to get to the cmosbattery. On some systems it looks like a silver nickel that you will needa small flat head screw driver to pop it out. On other systems it will beinside a vinyl covering and has a cable that plugs into the motherboard. Once you remove the CMOS Battery, let it sit for an hour or two then put itback in and put the laptop back together. Boot the machine and you'llprobably have to go into the Bios or System Setup because the system will haveforgotten the date, time and password. If the password is not reset then you might have to go and remove a Pin from the password jumper on the motherboard. I would consult the user manual and see how to do it.
My computer does nto detect
My guess is one of two... first that the USB drivers are corrupted or not properly installed. Go to the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, if any of the controller ports or or hubs have a yellow or red mark on them, then try to delete and reinstall that device or driver. (described for XP, Vista or Win7 will be slightly different).
The other option is that you may have a USB hardware failure. You can add a PCMCIA to USB adapter for a few bucks.
I just got a Compaq
cheak your usb port if you connect you connection than cheak your usb driver.
Where does the sim go
Hi tefordgal12,
I see you have a SIM that you want to use on your compaq system, I checked in you system specs online and it does not show that it has a 3g modem on it on the issue.
- On all Laptops the 3g modem can be found inside the system, if you remove the battery you may see a slot for a sim card in the battery bay.
- All Laptops have the 3g modem in the battery but not all Laptops have a 3g modem installed on it some may have sim slots but does not have the 3g modem installed in it
- Call HP regarding this concern since they can answer our question most accurately if you give them the serial number of your Compaq Laptop.
I hope that the information I provided helps.
Thanks, have a great day.
