Have you tried to "re-boot" your device ? e.g. hold down the ON/OFF button for a (long) while ... until the device shuts down and restarts ... (and see if it goes past that point) Or have you tried to do a "hard" reboot, by pushing a pin into the RESET hole (at the bottom of the GPS) to shut it down and restart it ? If both of these doesn't work, it may be a (navigation) software error. In this case, try to restore your navigation software from your (latest computer) back-up ... and see if that solves the problem. if not, you may have to get TomTom support's help to download a "fresh" version of your navigation software to install on your GPS device, and then try to start it up ...

If you're refering to upgrading your Navigation software, QuickGPSfix data and/or your current (out-dated) map, you can do it by connecting to the TomTom website (www.TomTom.com) using the TomTom HOME or MyDrive Connect software, depending on the model/version of your GPS device. If you're refering to upgrading your GPS hardware/equipment, to have more capability/features, the device is not hardware upgradable, except for adding/using an SD card with a higher storage/memory capacity (to store more info/maps, etc.) ... provided you have a GPS device with an SD card slot. You'll want to consider buying a newer model with more capabilities / features than what you have now.

If you can't find the proper one from the TomTom website ... (particularly, if the GPS device is an older version), try checking / looking for it on eBay or Amazon. Just make sure the attachment is compatible for your TomTom model.

Go to manufacturer web site and they will tell you what software to download and what connections to use for your software updates. Software and firmware is free but unless you paid for lifetime maps, map upgrades will cost you about 50 bucks- and that is a rip off. But........

If it doesn't continue to show the license and owner screen, it means that the TomTom (navigation) software is not running properly. Often it means that the software is corrupt, and it has to be repaired or replaced. If you are able to connect the TomTom device to a computer (using the USB port), select the TomTom disk, right click and select Properties, and run the TOOLs to check and repair the (TomTom) disk. After completing the repair, disconnect it (from the computer), restart the TomTom - turn it off and turn it back on, and see if you get it going normally. If not, you'll need to restore your navigation software from your backup and see if it works. Or you can download the navigation software from the TomTom website and copy it onto your GPS device.

That model may not have sufficent memory to accomadate the upgrades clear out your addresses and redo the adress pages if your putting in old adresses from old version. reboot the system hard restart not soft restart it will reload the hole system to factory new

if the maps are from tomtom HOME simply reconnect and they will reinstall. If not buy a new map

last page in the change preferences, hit reset to factory. It will delete all settings back to new out of the box. Back up will simply reinstall as it was

2 possibilites here.1. There is no map installed on your tomtom, you'll have to buy one.2. You have a patched map and updated the units navcore and the unit needs to be re-patched to recognise the map
