Wndr3400 blinking green power light

According to the owner manual, a blinking green power light on the WNDR3400 indicates corrupt firmware. You can supposedly use the restore CD that came with the router to attempt a firmware recovery.

I pulled the following from the owner manual regarding firmware recovery, which you can find online at ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNDR3400_SM_23MAR2010.pdf. Page 35 has this procedure

1. Make sure that your PC is connected to your router and the router is powered on.

2. Insert the Resource CD that came with your router into your PC. The CD automatically starts and detects the language you are using on your PC. Select a different language option, if you prefer. If the CD does not automatically start, browse the CD and double-click on .

3. Click Supporting Software, then Netgear Firmware Recovery Utility, and follow the prompts for the recovery process.

4. After firmware recovery is complete, follow the prompts to restore your configuration

Wireless will connect but not surf internet

Sounds like your router is connected to the modem, but the modem is not connected to your ISP. Is this a new connection or a sudden problem? Unplug power to modem and router. Plug in modem first, then router. Do you need password for ISP? If connected, recommend downloading Netgear Genie for your WNDR3400.

Hi, i have the Netgear

You mention "the WEP security code of my internet provider, and from this either you mean the WEB of your Router that you provided that the other devices use, or you mean something like the user name and password that you use to log into the ROUTER to set the settings for it. I'd try to help; but, it's not clear what you are really having an issue with. You should be able to check any device that uses that router and get the information needed. But, mostly devices just need to have you put in the password, in this case the same WEP used on other devices, as long as you are using the same protocol in the new device this should work. The other issue you have is that you list the model of a Netgear Router: WNDR3400100NAS but you call it a USB, which sounds more like a NIC (network interface card). So, there's confusion over what is trying to connect to what. Are you trying to connect a device, or another router to the first router wirelessly. And that's another problem altogether. So I see three issues with your description, could you be a little more succinct?

I have a WNDR3400 and

You need to set the subnet mask correctly on the machines so the machines can see traffic on both subnets. If DCHP is issuing the IP address of each subnet, it's also issuing the subnet mask. You should be able to configure both routers to issue a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 and that would give your computers on either subnet visibility to both networks. Make sure to configure only one of these routers as the gateway and make sure both routers agree which one is the gateway to the Internet otherwise some of the computers won't have Internet access. Network keeps on crashing

Try turning QOS off on your router. Generally, with home routers, QOS causes issues. What are your download and upload speeds? If you don't know you can go to speedtest.net and it will tell you. If turning off QOS doesn't resolve your issue and you have decent Upload/Download Speeds (3mbps/20mbps or higher) then your best bet would be to replace your wireless router.

How to use dual band on router?

You can only use it in the 2.4 ghz mode or the 5 ghz mode:

1. Log in to the Router by going to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com

and entering the default user name admin and default password password, or using whatever

LAN address and password you have set up.

2. Select Wireless Settings under Setup in the main menu to display the Wireless Settings

screen.

3. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate.

4. Set up the 2.4 GHz wireless network:

a. Enter the SSID name. The default is NETGEAR.

b. Select the operating channel for the wireless mode. The default is Auto. When Auto is

selected, the router finds the best operating channel available.

If you notice interference from nearby devices, you can select a different channel.

Channels 1, 6, and 11 will not interfere with each other.

c. Leave the wireless mode set to the default setting of Up to 145Mbps for 2.4GHz.

5. Select security options for the 2.4GHz wireless network.

The wireless Security Options are set to None by default. NETGEAR strongly recommends

that you use wireless security. You can select a different Security Option and a different

passphrase for each wireless network. For the highest performance of the 2.4GHz wireless

network and the most secure encryption, NETGEAR recommends that you use WPA2-PSK as

your security option.

6. Set up the 5GHz wireless network:

a. Enter the SSID name. The default is NETGEAR-5G.

b. Select the operating channel for the wireless mode. The default channel is 36. If there is an

Auto option in the channel list and you select it, the router will find the best operating

channel available.

If you notice interference from nearby devices, you can select a different channel.

c. Leave the wireless mode set to the default setting of Up to 300Mbps for 5GHz.

7. Select security options for the 5 GHz wireless network.

My incoming internet speed is 29+ megs. Recently the wireless went to 1/2. How do I change it back the orginal speed?

A reset helps some time. If it is used allot. But, you should first check the internet speed without the router. It may be that they change your speed. The site I use is http://speedtest.net/. After you determined that the internet is not at fault. Log into the router at 192.168.1.1 in your browser. At the Wireless settings (advance) there should be a setting for wireless speed. Note that the higher speeds are only for G and N band settings. But you should have a schedule downtime for the wireless net.

I got an answer that the speed is common. It wasn't that way until recently. So how do I change it back to what it was?

find the reset button on your modem, push it in with a pin for 30 seconds, then at 29 seconds unplug it,now hook it back up and reset the password to something that noone can figure out, check your speed again,if it is still slow, then you need to update your wireless card in your comp,if it is better, then someone else was using your internet,if they have access to the modem, they can steal your internet,if none of that works, get advanced system care 8 ultimate free and run that,it will clean up your comp,if you really like it,i have the code for a year for you
