Easy, just hook up old drive as secondary and new drive as primary. Copy what you need from the secondary onto the primary. When you are done, just disconnect the secondary drive and enjoy your new one.

Hi, if you can hear the drive spinning up but then making a clicking noise this means the heads have failed, this would need to be opened up (ideally in a clean room), if the platters are okay you can replace the heads... but if your data is precious to you I would reccomend sending it to a data recovery company Digital Recovery (www.digitalrecovery.co.nz) are fairly good.

if not need you second operating system, format your second Hdd, if it IDE, see that in behind hdd it will be switched,,slave,,.

The best way to fix & prevent it would be to move everything off of it and wipe the drive clean and do a full format, not a quick format. The other thing could be, depending on what type of system you have and if its overclocked it can cause data corruption if the Pcie frequency is set above ~110. I have three of these without a single problem, with about 8,200, 8,080, and 5,400 hours on them.

The short answer is the drive is having trouble calibrating itself, and should be sent back under warranty for replacement.
There are things you could try to recover the unit, but why risk voiding the warranty only to wind up with a questionable drive afterward?

Update your ms Drivers and Service pack.

The drive has 3.5" HDD that needs lots of power (Amps) to start up that big motor inside, and is first thing to learn . 2amps it needs, ok? so if pack is missing it will never startup on any USB port, not rated for 20x standard USB load factors. some laptops only do 0.1amps (100mA) and are useless to startup any hdd motor of any kind. see why here. and see a better extremal solution cheap.! $10 http://www.pcdied.com/external-hdd.html
