iTunes song have DRM protection, you have to remove DRM from iTunes and convert M4a to MP3.

have you checked for sound mute? Settings/sounds/silent mode to see if its unchecked? if its still silent, then root software is or could be missing or deleted or last of all a hardware issue.

Factory reset!

1. Connect the supplied USB cable to the ARCHOS. 2. Plug the USB end of the cable into your computer. 3. The ARCHOS will turn on and ask you if you want to connect it (Mount) or not. Choose to Mount it. 4. If you choose to just let it charge, you can always drag the top notification bar downwards to reveal the USB notification message and choose to connect. 5. My son and daughter got a new Archos 28 each for Christmas, my son's has stopped charging. I of course can not find my receipt and Kmart wont take it back. How else can I get this fixed? I paid too much money for this thing for it to stop working in just a couple of days....Can anyone help me?

Try using a paperclip and inserting it in the reset hole. The reset is a small hole next to the ethernet dongle port

We had a similar problem yesterday. It happens as soon as we plug in to USB cable to PC. We found that after we left it for some time it did eventualy kick back in to life. We could use it until we plugged in to USB again. Trying to find a solution to the problem right now. You can press and keep hold of volume up button while you turn back on and that kicks in the diagnostic software menu. From there you can find the "Force screen calibration" which we did but it doesnt sort out the problem of plugging in USB

if its anything like an samsung tablet hold the power button down for atlest a min. I had to hold mine down for 30 seconds to get it to reboot

From the Archos User's Manual.

- Press and hold the power button until the ARCHOS banner is displayed and then release it.
- Press the power button twice (like a mouse double-click) while the banner is still displaying.
- A white Recovery screen should appear within a couple of seconds.
- To move from one option to another, press the power button. To select the highlighted item, hold down on the power button.
You'll want to select the Format System option.
