DP 02 Info

Hi,

Can't help you with any books for the DP 02, but I can try to assist you in doing what you'd like to do.

The way I would attempt to do this, and there may be other ways but this is really the cleanest in my opinion, (assuming you have access to a computer) is to first rip the CD onto your computer into a series of wav files. Then you'll want to work with one song/CD track at a time. Then you'll need to use a WAV editor (Audacity is a good free one) to convert the wav file from STEREO into MONO wav file. You can then (using the USB import function on the DP-02) import the mono WAV file into the DP-02's fat partition. From there you can load it into the DP-02 by choosing which track to load it into. You'd then be able to play this track while recording your voice overdubs onto another track.

You'd then mix your song and you could burn onto a cd right from the DP-02 (or do as I do and export the mix as two mono wav files back onto your PC and, then convert them back to stereo and when you have all the songs you want for the CD burn a new CD from your PC).

You may have to consult the manual for how to use the USB import/export as well as how to record and mixdown, but I've tried to outline the basic process to do what you want which wouldn't be discussed int he manual.

Hope this helps.

MY PC wont recognize my Tascam Portastudio device2488, i have Vista

Tascam 2488:I use Vista and my 2488 MK1.When you plug in the USB cable from the 2488 into your Vista PC, Vista will always say 'not recognised'. You do not need any PC drivers for the 2488. On the Tascam 2488, go to 'Menu', then 'Disk', then 'USB Open/Close', then click 'Yes'.On your PC the 2488 will appear as a new hard drive in the 'Computer' folder, called HDR2488. You'll see three folders in there: WAVE, SMF and BACKUP. Use the WAVE folder to import and export WAV files, the SMF folder to import midi files to the 2488, and the BACKUP folder is where you can import and export Backup files to and from the 2488.Hope this helps!

Boot in TASCAM 2488

thiagofo,

Formatting of the hard drive is outlined on page 66 of the 2488 manual (assuming this is the old grey 2488 and not the newer blue MkII).

In case you don't have the manual handy, you can either format the entire drive (excluding the fat partition) or just one of the partitions. There is also another option to refrormat the fat partition.

To format the drive, (and create new partitions), go to the 'disk' menu, highlight 'format' and press 'enter'. You'll be asked to specify the new partition size (all partitions will be the size you choose). The press 'enter' again to proceed with the format. A new blank song will be created on each partition. Do not power off the 2488 while the format is in progress.

To format a single partition, from the 'disk' menu choose 'reform' and press 'enter'. You then choose (by highlighting) which partition you want to format and press 'enter' to format. You'll get the warning/confirm message and press 'enter' again to proceed.

The fat partition (visible via usb from a PC) can be formatted also. To do this select 'fat reform' from the disk menu and press 'enter' and then 'enter' again at the warning.

irvingsr3 - I'm not sure if resetting the unit is the easiest way to fix your problem. You might be able to perform a redo, or you might be able to just go and start a new song which will reset most of the control settings to their defaults. When you hit 'undo' it may have rolled back some of your input assignments or tracks which were armed for recording and that could explain why you can't seem to record now.

What is and how do I fix system error code:01

Hi Laura:This code really indicates there an issue with the hard disk. Initially, I thought that there was some overheating problem, and I was able to get the system stabilized, temporarily, by putting a small desk fan next to the cooling ducts on the right side of the unit.I suggest opened the unit, and check that the vent holes are positioned for optimal heat dissipation. The transformer and main capacitors are located on the front of the power supply board... which places them towards the front of the unit on the right side. The frame only has a single row of vent holes where these components are located... not towards the rear where the double row is. Making the design worse, the vent holes on the bottom of the chassis are not positioned where they would benefit heat dissipation. If you use a fan, it will need to be position on the right, near the center. The will blow cool air across the major power supply components and let the air exit through the bottom and left side.Heat, however, is not the issue with an Error Code 01. This is a hard disk problem - probably some corrupted track or possibly the boot sector. It may even be as a result of excessive fragmentation. Of course, TASCAM provides no utilities to solve any of these problems.System Error Code 01 does not necessarily mean your disk is fried and needs to be replaced by a new drive. If you can bring the system back up after a Error Code 01 failure, immediately begin trying to backup your data. If you can back up to the FAT, you can access these files by connecting the hard disk to PC, using Windows Explorer, and copying the files off the drive. With the drive connected to a PC, all the files in the FAT partition are accessible.Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.
