Unfortunately, the DVD laser diode is probably faulty. a separate laser diode is used for reading CDs so these still work. The laser unit will require replacing.

In this player the region is hard-coded in the firmware, it cannot be changed by inputting some commands, a new firmware must be loaded.To my knowledge there are no region-free firmwares for this player.

The axles may have substantial amount of in/out play, 1/4 inch or more. Does the axle in question actually drive the wheel or does it freewheel?It's a typical differential so if you get both wheels off the ground and spin one wheel, the other wheel should rotate in the opposite direction.The axles are retained by the differential assembly (inside transmission) so if the axle is truly falling out, to fix it will require transmission be removed and opened. Probably not an economical repair unless you can DIY or replace with good used unit.
