This could be a multitude of things. You would need to do some more "troubleshooting" style steps and post results here in order for someone to define an area of trouble. First, remove the "new" cartridge you put in and "re-insert" the old one. Did the problem go away? - Then you have a faulty "new" cartridge. - remember new cartridges can have problems too. After all we're only humans, and we can make mistakes. That includes manufacturers. ;)
If the problem still persists, TOTALLY unplug system from the wall. Wait at least 5 minutes and plug it back in. Turn it on, and tell me what you get. If the screen still comes up with new cartridge in place, then refer to above actions and scenario about replacing new cartridge if different result is achieved once older cartridge is returned and new result occurs.
Please ensure that "ALL" doors, handles, locking mechanisms, proper seating of cartridges, drum, fuser, etc is done. Re-seat each and every piece to ensure that ALL of them are properly secure and seated as they should be.
Report back with what you find and we'll go from there.. :)

I ran a search for the "Battery" in the service manual. It does not have a battery. The Time and Date clock function is control by an IC chip EEPROM on the main logic board.

There are several problems that could contribute to this issue.
the most likely would be the charge corona wire. it is located in the drum unit. If you can get to it to clean then do so. if not try replacing the drum. After that and the problem stil exists, Check the connection of the flat cable on the main PCB (Printed circuit board), then check or replace the main PCB. Or find an authorized service center.

Error 77 basically means- Heater thermistor short circuit. However, the message is sometimes incorrectly shown. You can try this- power off the machine, take out the cartridge, close the door and power up. The machine should notice either the toner or the front door is not in place. Now open the door and place the toner. This might solve the problem. You can also try to soft reset the printer. If none of these works, you might have to change the thermistor.
