If there is a mechanical pressure problem, more than likely you will need to service the printer.

Now I know this may sound silly, but please try this first.

Remove the paper from the input tray and fan both edged of the paper. This will beak up any static electrical charge that may be cause two sheets to stick together.

Honest to goodness, that is a real fix in some cases.

Try to do a factory reset on the server.

Whilst the printer is turned off, press and hold the GO button as you plug the printer on to the socket. Notice that all lights on the printer will turn on as well. Continue pressing the go button until the light for the toner goes up and once its up, release the button. Next, hold down the Go button again until the "Yellow Status" light turns on once on, release the Go button. Wait for the printer to initialize and see if the error went away.

Just fixed my Brother HL-5140. Hope this helps :) I have struggled for years and finally figured this out from the Brother website.

If you are unable to print coupons from the Internet the print processor
setting in the driver needs to be changed. To change the setting,
1. Open Printers and Faxes.

2. Right mouse click on the Brother printer and left click Properties.

3. Click on the Advanced tab.

4. Click the Print Processor button.

5. Under Print Processor, select WinPrint.

6. Under Default Datatype, make sure RAW is selected. Click OK.

7. Back on the Advanced tab remove the check next to Keep Printed
Documents.

8. Click Apply and OK.

Try printing the coupons again.

The IP address is assigned by your router using a process called DHCP. Go into your router management using a browser and look for the table listing all connected devices. You will see the printer IP address there.

If you're not sure how to access your router, tell us what make and model router you have and we should be able to walk you thru the process.

You probably are using the wrong printer software. Reinstall the printer software and make sure you're installing the specific model you have.

For "all the lights are flashing together. Red Status and amber Paper, Toner, Drum lights are all flashing" problem:

Description:
When all the lights are flashing together, turn the printer power OFF, wait 5 seconds and then turn the printer power ON again.

If the error continues, disconnect the interface cable from the back of the printer and use the following steps to reset the printer:

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Press and hold the Go button on the front of the printer, at the same time turn the printer power on.
3. When the Toner light is on by itself, release the Go button.
4. Push and hold the Go button again, release the Go button when the Paper light is on by itself.

If this does not clear the problem, consult your dealer or your authorized service representative.

Sounds like the Drum Unit needs to be replaced. Some HP printers replaces the drum and the toner at the same time to keep quality, but Brother printers doesn't replace the drum on each

You may need to buy the Brother Drum Unit. The original one costs about $95.00 USD, a compatible one is about $49.00 USD (MFR part # DR500, DR510)

The drum needs to be replaced each 10,000 to 20,000 pages or when the quality of printing is poor.

What is your operating system? It may not be compatable with this printer. Check for compatability at www.microsoft.com click "Windows compatability center" under the "support" tab.

Follow the instructions below to solve this problem.

1. Turn off the printer power switch.
2. Take out the DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) from your priner, if you have a DIMM installed.
3. Wait a few seconds and turn the printer back on.
4. Try to print again.
   If the error still remains, press the Go and the Job Cancel button together to check the error status referring the LED indications below.
5. After checking the error status, report it to your dealer or Brother Customer Service.

there is the problem in your toner cartridge. toner drum should be replaced. and the printer also needs proper service.

DRUM UNIT "spent"
It can be reset if the printing quality is good
To reset the drum follow the instructions below:
Press the cover release button and then open the front cover of the printer.

Press and hold down Go button until all 4 LEDs are lit. Once all 4 LEDs are lit, release the Go button.

Close the front cover.
Make sure that the Drum LED is now off.
Caution: Reset the drum counter only when you replaced the drum unit with a new one.

Press the menu button for 20 sec and then try to turn on the printer

hi,
i recently bought a second hand hl-5140 and when switched on had the fault you have described - on checking machine over i found a small piece of torn paper stuck in the paperpath. after clearing, the printer worked fine.check over for paper again as mine was only a very small peice.

Please try to check the driver you installed in your printer driver and make it sure that it supports the Vista operating system otherwise it won't print any page you wish to print.
