  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the Go button on the front of the printer, at the same time turn the printer power on.
  3. When the Toner light is on by itself, release the Go button.
  4. Push and hold the Go button again, release the Go button when the Paper light is on by itself.
This should reset the DRUM counter.

Printer makes clicking noise when printing

One reason why the cartridge is making a clicking noise is that there is a washer and spring missing from the inside of the cartridge

if this is the case you will need to buy a new cartridge as it can not be solved until the washer and spring are put in

Power surge

This is kind of hard to diagnose, but i can try to help you out. I had a problem like this in my own house. A laser printer when it first starts to print it pulls an incredable amout of electricity. Therefor it can make a few things happen. It can make your battery kick in which can be telling the pc to turn off. Or it can be blowing the fuse in your actual circuit panel. To test if you need more power i would run a heavy duty extension cord to the printer and plug it in to a seperate outlet than you can be certain is not on your comptuers circuit. If it works without turning your computer off you know your problem is your electric circuit in your house. I would then call an electrican. If it still does not work after trying the above which i dont see a happening then i would be kind of stumped :)...
Try this above step and let me know. thanks again
Steven.
P.S. my computer worked fine for along time too before i saw any power issues.

The drum indicator light is on. Is this a repair

the drum is the tray that holds the toner, it comes out when you remove the toner. you can buy this part at any store that sells the toners. it is normally more expensive than the toner but will last you about 4 of them

Here is a link to the Brother website, where you choose your operating system and language, and it will take you to the page where you can download the drivers you need to install.

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=hl5140_all

Choose the file you need, download it to your desktop and then run it.
Afterwards you should be able to find this printer listed among your Printers and Faxes (on the Start button, in Windows XP).

If you need more information, please tell me what operating system you have and write back right here.

Hope this does the trick for you. Leave a comment if so!

I usually print invoices and our forms have lines

Make sure that neither the printer or the driver are set to draft mode.

Also make sure that no one changed the form content to decrease the size and density of the lines.

Toner light

I taped a very small white piece of paper over the sensor eyes on either side of the cavity where the cartridge fit. I read that coloring in the actual "windows" that are on either side of cartridge also may help so I did that too.

So open the front, remove cartridge, look on the cartridge for a small circle and color them with black marker (or use electrical tape), look where they would have aligned inside the cavity, tape a small piece of white paper over those sensor eyes.

I just did this and it stopped the blinking. Don't know how long but based on my reading, one of these was the trick.

Our Brother HL-5140 is not printing. It doesn't

Replace the paper pcik-up rolly assembly. MAKE SURE TO get a good look at how the existing one is installed before removing it. It needs a little tweeking to get the new one in and everything lined up correctly.

Also replace the separation page on the paper tray itself.

Look for part number PF-1 Kit or OEM PART #: LJ7920001
The only diagrams I could find on-line of the inside of the printer I found by searching for "brother pl-prn067". Look at pages 8-9.

Drum light will not cut off

The drum light flashes when the drum is almost used up and solid when it is used up. You open the front door and hold the go button til all lights flash and that resets the drum counter. You may need also to run the blue tab on top of the drum back and forth about 20 times to clean the corona...

I have a hl 5140 printer and there are lines on

Hi
Hope I can solve your problem
The first thing is do you go to print preview before you print if you do and the line is there it might have something to do with your page border go to your page border and put on no border

It also might have something to do with not having your paper correctly in the printer make sure all your paper is the same in the printer and it is all straight
and correct at the time of print.
but my bet is that you have your page border on 1 side of your paperwhen you are doing a document up the top you have page borders make sure it is on no page border

I hope I helped
