Hi there.I have this same HDD and I don't think your problem is related with any "installation" or softwares. It should work just as a plug-n-play hardware, as mine does. Maybe Ooq Affiat's advice would do, by changing the USB cable. Best luck!

try manually looking for the files in the drive or have windows look for them for you long as the windows index system is running you maybe able to find the files your looking for

Your harddisk drive is bad. The external drive enclosure is still working and still sending a signal to your computer, but it is not reading the harddrive disk. There is nothing you can do to fix this, unless you replace the hard disk itself. For the data content that is stored in this damage disk, you can recover the files by sending it to bestbuy or office depot where they will have to send it off to a recovery company where it will cause you couple of bills large. Before so, you can try to take the harddisk inside the external harddrive enclosure and test it with a desktop computer via the sata cable connections. If you still get nothing, then yes it is a 110% your hard disk drive is damaged.
