You have to be a little more specific as to which lights are on and or flashing.

Clean the pulleys and rails, especially the round chrome bar that goes through the carrier.

Print hammer selenoid cap is broken, or print hammer selenoid is gummed up. batteries nothing to with any function of the machine except to keep the memory and margins

If you have a WW 15 II it has no memory except reprint. If you have a WW with memory yoe can go to Lexmark.com for a manual. DickyO

The WW's don't have a torque limiter. If it isn't returning all the way and making a howling noise spray some WD40 on the shaft that the carrier slides on and also the carrier motor bearings. DickyO

Be sure you have a dry L/O tape (Gen. Ribbon t 355 or equiv.) if you have a sticky L/O tape it will give you all kinds of trouble.

The margin release mech. is probably gummy and allowing returns to go past the margin. If thi is a dual pitch machine see if the pitch selector lever will move easily. If not use some WD40 on the margin rack.

I'm sorry, there is no reset button. It sounds like the power supply board has failed.This is becoming a common problem with all wheelwriters and it is simply caused by age. A local typewriter repairman should be able to get a power supply and install it.

Try taking the ribbon out and looking at it see if there is one spot for each character on the ribbon or if they are overlapping.If they are over lapping then either you have a problem with the ribbon drive assembly on the machine or it is set for a multi-strike ribbon.

Remove the platen by squeezing the plastic lathes at both ends.Clean it with mineral spirits and fine sand paper.DickyO

Try removing the platen by squeezing the black plastic latches at both ends and lifting out the roll. you will probably find debris on the tray or build up on the rolls.DickyO

The platen (black roller) probably isn't fully seated, press down firmly on both ends of the platen. If it comes up again the latches are broken and you'll need a platen.

Turn the machine off move the carrier back & forth by hand and see if it will go all the way to both ends. If it doesn't look for debris in it's path. If it moves put some WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on. Put some WD40 on the bfront and rear carrier motot bearings, the front one can be reached from inside the T/W the rear one will require snaking the straw thru the case.

Look for debris on or under the PC board if not you will need a tech.
