if the volume control is a rotary dial. The dial itself has gone bad or is worn out.  I'd most likely replace the unit as repair will be about the same price or more.  Buy an mp3 player instead.

Make sure the cd is snapped into place, and the speakers are plugged in to the correct jacks (right speaker, left speaker specific). Turn the unit on and press the function button (far left) until you see "CD" - the other functions are "RADIO" and "AUX" - you should be able to adjust volume, track numbers, etc. If that doesn't work, you might have a lemon --- 90 day warranty, so be sure to get it back!

Question edited for clarity. Durabrand is a bargain basement brand as an own label electronics supplier for Walmart and Asda in the UK. They are made in Turkey and China and there is little to no support. In my experience on modern TV's they do not have stereo audio output sockets any more. You might be mistaking them for some other sockets, used to connect video cameras or projectors. The only sound outputs would either be the optical or HDMI connectors on the TV.
