In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor. Also in some cases the central motor base can shift and so the distance to the disc can be more resulting in low detection. You can pull up the spindle to come closer. Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault. If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

Thank you for using Fixya

I just bought an antenna

If it is NOT high definition, you will need to buy a digital tuner for free over the air channels.

Hello -

If you are using a cable/satellite receiver or digital converter, I would suggest resetting the receiver/converter. Some can be reset by simply switching off and on, some have a reset button and others need to be disconnected from the power supply for a minute or so. Reset the box, then try the TV again. Sometimes the software/firmware in these boxes can "crash" and "re-booting" the box will solve the problem.

If you have a DVD/VCR or game system connected to the TV, you should also test whether have audio on the TV from any of these devices. Finally, if the TV has a headphone socket, try plugging in a set of headphones to check for audio. You may have accidentally switched the TV speaker off.

If you've done all of the above and you have no audio from any device or headphones, it's likely that the Main/AV board (motherboard) in the TV has failed and will need to be repaired or replaced.

Please try the suggestions above, then post back with the results for further assistance. Please include the model number of your TV. If you don't know the model number, this can usually be found on a label on the rear of the TV. You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Hope this helps - good luck!

BElectric

An easy way to test for output on the remote controllers is to point them at a camera from a mobile phone. If you watch the camera picture whilst pressing buttons, the LED's will flash and show you the output. If you have dodgey buttons, it will show up as no LED flash.
Hope that helps to decide where your fault is.

Symphonic WF719 Combo - DVD

There should be a tiny hole near the DVD tray.
Uncurl a paper clip, and shove it into the hole.
The tray should unlock and open slightly allowing you to grab it and open it fully.
Good luck!

After confirming by viewing the operation manual for this unit, this TV is only capable of inputting a baseband video and standard audio. Unless the Satellite Receiver you have has those type of output jacks then this TV will not be able to reproduce picture or sound from the Receiver. It may be possible to connect through the antenna connection but again the Satellite would need a connector that would output on Channel 3 or 4. Most recent satellite receivers do not offer these ouputs. You indicate that the Receiver you have is High Def. The TV you have is not high def and would drastically down grade the quality of your picture and audio being delivered by the satellite receiver

If you're trying to get off-the-air reception here in the US, remember we switched to digital broadcasting and the old analog stations are off the air. This means that if you have an older analog-only tuner, you'll need a digital converter box to pick up the new broadcasts. Before the switch, the US government offered coupons to help pay for the boxes, but that's long since gone and you'll have to pay the full price. Radio Shack, Wal-Mart and Best Buy all carry the converters, and you can find them online as well.

Be aware that even with a converter, you may still not get a signal. With the new digital broadcasting, signal strength is critical. With older analog broadcasts, a weak signal could still give you a watchable picture. But with digital, weak signals may not even be detected. People living in some areas have found that they get no off-air channels or far fewer channels than they did before the switch.

Much of the trouble is because of the line-of-sight nature of the new digital system. With the switch to digital, broadcasts moved to new higher frequencies that don't spread out or follow the Earth's curve like the lower analog channels. Many people have found they needed to put up rooftop antennas pointed toward the station so they could pick up a signal. This is especially true if you live in a valley area or where there are many tall buildings between you and the broadcaster.

Good luck with your reception, and thanks for using Fixya!
