Broken volume knob
I located the remote control for the unit and it works fine. As the unit is not the primary amplifier for the home stereo system, I use the remote to control the volume. Thank you for your quick responce, and I will keep you in mind for any future needs.

Audio system turns off
Wires are touching somewhere (speaker wires)... Usually, the wires neg. and positive wires running to one speaker are touching... The receiver automatically detects this and emergently powers off...

Depending on the watts on your stereo would tell you the most, for example say its 300 watts u buy a 150 watt speaker it would blow the speaker, if you buy a 500 watt speaker your risking frying the stereo, it be best too even it out as best you can, i know that this has nothing to do with what ur asking but it would help you to save more money on buying a new speakers or receiver, now to the answer to you question, i would recommend a 12inch speaker, it would give you good sound quality

Connect R5100 to DVR/Monitor
use component audio to the HDTV and optical audio to your KLH reciever. The component and optical are always active at the same time. I work for TWC if you have more questions.

Surrond sound
For Stereo Mode (Front L & R Speaker), you must plug RCA cables (match up red and white) from Output on DVD player to DVD Input on the back of the receiver. Then with speaker wire, run from receiver speaker output (Front Speakers) to designated speaker (make sure + and - match up to both input and output).
As for hooking up surround sound, I'm currently trying to figure that one out with just using the L, R and Center. I don' t want wire running all over the place just for rears.
Hope this helps

Digital/Optical Question
It's a pain in the butt getting the system set up to use the TOSlink from your PC.
Try this:
1. Hit the DVD button.
2. Use MODE/SET to get to DVD/OPT
3. Turn DSP off.
4. Use the TEST/SETUP button to make sure your speakers all work
5. Screw with your sound card!

Center channel turns scratchy.
Sorry to inform you, The driver transistors or IC is going bad, or there might be a poor solder connection on the center channel Amp. If you know how to solder, you may be able to poke around at the center channel amp circuit, with a wooden or plastic tool, and maybe see where the bad connection(s) are. To get a shop to looki at this unit, may not pay, but that is all up to you, on how much you paid for the unit, and how much your willing to pay to get it fixed. Read this great article and see if it helps you to decide. http://www.techlore.com/article/10602/How-to-Determine-if-you-Should-Repair-a-Broken-Device/
Good Luck
