Your problem is VERY common. It's defective, get a replacement.

This review is from: KLH DVZ-2500 DVD Home Theater System (Electronics) I read alot of the recent reviews before purchasing this system. I wasn't going to buy it because of the volume problem (too loud) but some people said that this could be lowered in the 'audio properties > dynamics' setting.
Sure enough, there is a setting, but it does NOT lower the volume level at all. So, I rang the toll free 888 number and this audio level problem is a defect. However, the dynamic setting is purely to make some sounds softer, not to lower volume. I was told to get a replacement. The replacement is the exact same way ... defective. Buy this system if you only want to hear _DVDs_ with all speakers, because there are no inputs. And the radio, CD is at best stereo,
AND
if you don't mind the fact that it will be too loud, if at any stage you want a normal listening level. I gave 2 stars because I was able to watch a DVD ok with volume level one.

I am unsure how you get the proper bands and belts but i can help you with the electronic components. I use a website called Mouser.com. The components on the website are from many different dealers varying in quality and price. I really like the website because they show pictures of components and have a good search engine that allows you to get exactly what you need. Their prices are good, but shipping on a one dollar part can be 5 or so dollars. Because of this i make lists of components i need or know I'm going to need, and buy them all at once. This makes shipping more reasonable.

If you are unsure what components you are looking at, or differences in types ie, electrolytic vs. ceramic capacitors, do a google search on electronic components. there are tons of great websites out there with excellent information.

Some of the best rescources for information have been beginner books about ham radio. Strange i know, but true.

disconnect offending unit. then play see if same response occurs on the alleged normal unit using the offending cable interchange cables see if you get same result. Means it's bench repair ,internal electronics require specialist equipment to locate the offending item.

You could check it by having the unit switched on a touching each of the pins of the device with an insulated tool. Making certain you don't short any of the pins together. You should hear a buzz on each channel. If you get nothing on the right then it could well have gone. However that is a lot of messing about, as the device can be purchased for around £12, it could be easier just to replace it and see if that cures it. After all it is the device that does most of the work, so the chances are it's gone!

If you can post a picture of the fuse it might help in tracking one down. However I should point out that fuses rarely blow on their own. And one blown is a sign of a serious overload, probably in the main amp or power supply section.
