Sounds to me like the gas is shut off. Check the valves.

Most of the light covers are twist off in the anti clockwise direction or have 1 or 2 screws holding the lamp cover on, so remove these and take the lamp cover off to gain access to the bulb. The bulb should be a small edison screw threaded type and this can be removed by twisting it. You can place the replacement bulb in the opposite way until it is secure then replace the lamp cover.
