Sounds like you have a bad LCD screen, hook up a computer monitor on the video output located on the back of your Laptop, if the monitor produces a nice clean picture, suspect the LCD screen on your Laptop.

You can indeed buy the DC socket and fit, however this is a specialised job and unless you are good with a soldering iron and are 100% confident to strip a notebook down i wouldnt attempt it yourself.

Generally the pricing is around £60 - £80 to do this job.

suspect you may need to disable the motherboard built in graphics card and tell it to use PCI graphics adapter otherwise an interrupt conflict in CPU and possible conflict as both devices compete for same computer resources.
