I need to know how my jumpers go

http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Downloads/Category_Download.aspx?MenuID=6&LanID=9

Use the dropdown menu on the above website. Select 'Motherboard' for product category, Socket 478, and select your model number, P4VMM2. Then select your version number, which should be found directly on your motherboard, and click 'submit' This will begin the download for your users manual, which should illustrate the default settings for your motherboards jumpers.

I cant install hp laser jet 1018 on this board

Hi h_kanani1366,

It doesn't sound like your problem is with the printer, it sounds like your problem is with the USB drivers for the motherboard. Look in Control Panel and click on System, then click on the Tab that's says Hardware, From there click on Hardware Devices, and when it opens look down on the Systems configuration area and look for a ! in a triangle. If you find one then the problem is the driver. You'll need to go to the manufacturer's site for that Motherboard and download a new USB controller driver, or sometimes there call Chipsets drivers. And that should fix your USB port, if the drivers aren't the problem, then could have a faulty motherboard. Try putting something else that you knows works into that same USB port to see if you get the same response. That will let you know if it's the motherboard, or it could be the Printer or the Cable that your using to connect to.

That's it my friend, there can be no other reasons I can think of.

Good Luck, and don't forget to leave a rating based on my solution.

Thanks Mark

[email protected] ORIGINAL QUESTION:

OK let me start by saying I didn't ready any of the above. The simple answer is to buy a pci sound card. That will take care of the problem cheap and fast. It's likely that your onboard sound died on the motherboard. I used to own that board and random things would fail on it all the time.

Sound card should run you $20 or less.

What video card is better for my board?

Hello there Mizrach#03 ...

The following advice is based on specifications detailed here: http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Ecs-ECS-P4VMM2-V8-1-P4-FSB-533-DDR-A-V-L-MATX-PRESCOTT-MOTHERBOARD.

As I'm sure you already know, you have a relatively limited (older) motherboard (MB) there. But make no mistake, there is absolutely no criticism impiled in the least. After all, if the capabilities of your MB meets your particular needs, then there's nothing "wrong" with it. And let no one tell you otherwise. No one "needs" hardware beyond their "needs".

That said, THE critical determinant is the "4x AGP" specification. In the simplest terms: Get the best "4x AGP" video card you can get for the money.

Here's a lineup of solid choices (NOT all are 4x AGP, disregard those that are not): http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?Recs=10&Nav=|c:318|&Sort=4

God-speed, and please post back if you have any further questions, and/or to just let me know how everything worked out.

Can i install 1GB ddr2 on P4VMM2 Motherboard?

Hi,

Unfortunetly you cannot use ddr2 memory on this motherboard. The motherboard supports only PC2100/PC1600 DDR memory if you have version 8.1 of the motherboard. If you have v5.0 of the motherboard than you can only use sdram or ddr 266Mhz RAM. The same goes for the video card. The p4vmm2 motherboard is a rather old motherboard so I don't think it will payoff to upgrade the computer. It will be probably the best if you buy another computer.

Parts upgrade

Hi,

The 333/400 is the speed of the RAM in MHz 333 and 400 MHz. That corresponds with PC2700 and PC3200 that is in your specification.
250 GB hdd will work. Make sure that it is IDE and make sure that you connect the jumpers for master/slave the correct way.
As for the graphic card. If you have this one 'VGA SPARKLE 7300GT 512MB DDR2 128BIT PCI-X' than it will not work because it is a PCI-X card not an AGP card. You will need an older card for this motherboard.

How to install additional 256 MB memory

You simply just push the memory into the DIMM socket on the motherboard. You need to use DDR SDRAM but should check what your I/O bus speed is set at. They make 4 different types of DDR SDRAM. They are DDR-200 (PC1600). DDR-266 (PC2100). DDR-333 (PC2700) and DDR-400 (PC3200). The following links should help you out:

Boot problem

It is important to install the original drivers form the cd or form the website of the motherboard.

But i think you were trying to say that the os is not booting.
Check the following:

All IDE drivers on each cabels are jumpered correctly.
ex: harddisk is master and optical drive is slave.
If they are both master or slave it could do some IO conflict.
Your hard drive (that you are about to install the operatning sytem on) does not contain bad sectors.
If this occours you can see blue screens too.

check that the processor's fan holder isn't damaged , the problem can be coused by an incorrectly installed fan on the socket, usually done by overheating.

Hope this helps.
Oh and don't forget:
This motherboard only supports Celeron processors form 400 mhz and Pentium 4 from 533 mhz, it means Celeron D and pentium D can not be used.

Maximum installable memory with correct operation : 1gb do not mix the ram ferqencies. so don't use 266mhz ram with 400 mhz and so aon...

Processor pins missing

Many CPU fit the same socket number. It depends upon how the CPU is wired internally on which pins it uses.

When i install 512mb on my p4vmm2 it shows only 256

I assume you are installing DIMM modules (this motherboard has DDR and DIMM sockets). The RAM you are using is not compatible with your motherboard (it's 2-sided or two fast). exchange memory modules in the place where you get them.
