There are a few procedures you can possibly try before replacing components.

I HIGHLY recommend you unplug power while trying these steps

1) Unplug power and remove CMOS battery (usually a small silver circular battery) on motherboard for 1 minuted then reinstall battery and see if it boots up.

2) Re-seat all RAM memory chips. If it doesn't help, then try booting the system 1 memory chip at a time, to rule out a bad stick of RAM

3) If you have a separate video card (not onboard video) then try re-seating it

4) unplug both data and power cables to all internal components (hard drives, CD-Roms, Floppies, etc) and also internal cards and see if it boots. If it does then reconnect one device at a time til you find the culprit


That's pretty much all you can do without swapping out parts.

first update the bios of your system.
Then remove the drivers using safe mode, Download new drivers from nvidai web site ( do not use the drivers on the vga's cd). Disable any antivirus software and try again.

Since you tried setting up the mic through windows & that failed & you are sure the drive software is also installed correctly, than the onboard sound chip is defective & that can not be replaced.
One other place you can also check is within Device Manager. To get to device manager, right click once on my computer & slide down to & left click properties. Click the Hardware tab than click the device manager button. Scroll down to & click the + plus sign next to Sound, video and game controller. Do you see a yellow ! point anywhere? If yes your sound driver software needs to be reinstalled. If no than I'm back to you're sound chip is bad. The only way around it ( if you're board is out of warranty) is to buy a PCI sound card. Just so you understand, this is very common with all boards that have a built in sound chips. You're sound (from you're speakers), may still function. Again this is normal, but the mic function can also be bad.

There are some high tech cards here but you do not need a high tech card for Skype. Look towards the left upper side of the page & pick a card that will complement you're speakers. Ex: from 4.1 to 7.1 surround sound.

The setting in the BIOS for which slot the graphic card is installed is nor correct.
