Remove the existing printer and drivers from the PC. Power the PC off (don't just restart) wait a few minutes (or pull the plug for 30 seconds). Reason to pull the cord, you want it to flush any buffers that might still hold printer information.
Reconnect, once on, reinstall the printer from scratch. That should put a stop to the error.
This particular 'paper jam' error on the Dell 3110/3115/3130 can often be caused by the paper not being picked up from the paper tray. The printer 'expects' to 'see' the paper pass various sensors during it's path through the printer. Each one has a 'time window'. If the paper is not seen to pass sensors at the correct timings, a paper jam is assumed. Now - to cure the problem.Just cleaning the (3 identical) pickup/separation/feed rollers in the paper tray area could be enough (they get a build-up of paper dust - can affect their effectiveness). One of these rollers wears much quicker than the rest, and gets a pronounced flatspot. Replacement rollers are available via 'that' well known internet auction site.
The Dell 3115 (and Xerox 6180 multifunction, and Lexmark X560) all have a common problem with the INSIDE surface of the scanner platen attracting a deposit. This makes it a little 'cloudy' to look at, and produces a bluish tint to colour photocopies.
Print a test page from the printer that includes colours from all four cartridges. Then make 2 photocopies - one using the document feeder, and one using the flatbed. One may be better than the other - as a work-around.
The REAL solution is to clean the inside of the scanner platen (glass), but you must be very careful, otherwise you'll trash the printer. It is a very complex procedure to remove the scanner platen completely. It can (with great care) be lifted from the front, being very careful not to strain the cables. It can be cleaned successfully.
In your printer preferences advanced settings drop down the arrow next to grey scale choose black ink only. If it still has the same problem change the Cartridges.

Here are a couple of thoughts:
Open the Properties of the printer, then the Preferences from Control Panel or the Start Menu and change the defaults there. Changing from Word or other software doesn't make a permanent change.
A driver update for the printer might help too.
It's best to remove the fuser to get access to it. This video will show you how to remove it, and which levers to move to release tension in the pinch roller to clear the jam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjyggtF8d1k After you remove the jam make sure to do a close inspection on the internal roller (use a flashlight). You're looking for any scratches or "dents" in the colored roller (sometimes a deep red/brown color sometimes blue) if there are scratches you are probably going to have to replace the fuser. The imperfections on the fuser roller will show up on your printed pages. If you do need a new fuser you can find them for $160, or the entire rebuild maintenance kit for $375 http://www.fastprinters.com/productdetails.asp?PRODUCT_ID=DELL-UG190
