sometimes it gets stuck on something if you've had it on or on standby for a long time (I sometimes go for days without turning it off, just recharging from time to time). try turning it off completely for at least 30 seconds, then turn back on. if that doesn't work, try turning it off, opening the back and removing the battery for 30 seconds and then replacing it.

Hold old is your battery? My guess is that it's gone through too many recharges and you need to buy a new one.

If you are talking about the screen lock password, I believe the only way is to to a hard reset. This will unregister the device and erase all local content such as contacts, documents, personal information, books, etc. 1.Ensure your NOOKcolor is powered off; to do so, press the power button for 5 seconds. Your LCD screen should turn off 2.With your NOOKcolor powered off, Hold the Home Key (NOOK "n," logo below the LCD), while simultaneously pressing the Power Button for up to 25 seconds. 3. Your NOOKcolor will begin the start up process, Do NOT let go until a confirmation window appears asking if you would like to, "Factory Reset Your Device?" 4. Press the Home Key to continue with the Factory Reset 5. Press the Home Key again to Confirm 6. Upon completion you will regain access to your NOOKcolor however all account and personal information (email, contacts, pass-code, credit card, etc..) will be deleted from your device. You will then be able to Re-Register your NOOKcolor and re-download any purchased content after your re-connect to your Barnes and Noble account.

access Settings > Device Information and tap above the volume bar while holding Volume + button, a menu pops up...unchecked "Enable Demo Mode". Turn off the Nook, turn it back on, demo mode should be off now. -DO NOT- try and verify if demo mode is off before rebooting the device. If all else fails, bring it in to your local B&N and seek the Nook specialist out. They should be able to turn it off for you. Good Luck! :-)
