Missing letters on computer screen
If there was any warranty on the refurbished desktop and monitor and if such still applies, return it for a replacement.
Either the video card in the desktop computer is going bad or the monitor has issues. If the monitor has issues, they might involve 1) a focus wire to the CRT; 2) a power supply going bad 3) a problem with the focus control.
What can you do? You start trying to rule out possibilities. You try swapping out the monitor with another monitor. If that fixes the problem, then the desktop computer's video card is unlikely the problem. If there is a power supply going bad yielding inadequate voltage, then possibly neither the desktop video card nor the monitor is at fault. If you take your monitor and plug it into another computer that has the ports similar to your desktop computer and the monitor has no fadeouts, then the problem is either the desktop computer video supply or the power supply. So, there actually is a non-technical way to determine if the monitor is at fault. But that would leave you wondering if the computer was at fault, video card or power supply. Some video cards were integrated, i. e. could not be removed. You could download and run Speccy to find out some information about the video and lookup the specs on the internet although they are unlikely to be at the manufacture's site at this point. Whether you have someone at a computer club who would check these remaining components out or swap them out is a question I can't answer. You are pretty close to the point of needing to just get an inexpensive tablet or something from a classifieds paper such as Trading Post or Gumtree (Australian). But if it is running XP, don't pay over $100 for it. (Inside joke: the military may still use XP but that is defensible.) I hope this helps.

If you are referring to blocking Oovoo using Windows Firewall, try to follow these steps:
- Open Start menu.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Click on Security Center.
- Click on Windows Firewall, which is located at the bottom.
- There should be 3 tabs. "General", "Exceptions", "Advanced".
- Click on the "Exceptions" tab.
- Scroll down until you find "Oovoo".
- Tick the box next to it.
- Then click on "Ok".
If you followed those steps, you shall have unblocked Oovoo from Windows Firewall.

running SpyBot Search

Victim of software counterfeiting, what should i
Contact Microsoft. They will often provide discounted licences to people that demonstrate that they have paid for counterfeit software. If you can show them a receipt indicating that you paid money in good faith, they will licence your illegal copy for their lowest current fee. I think it is around $90 now, for a programme that usually costs $240. Good deal to get all the benefits of a legal copy.

Zylar i hope you will
I don't know who "Zylar" is, but I will try and help you with this problem anyway.
You are getting a message that you are a victim of software counterfeiting because your version of Windows XP Professional that is installed on your computer is not a valid, legal copy. Someone has installed boot leg software on your computer and it cannot be registerd as a legal copy for you. If you want to solve this problem, you need to buy a legal copy of windows xp and install it on your computer. When you removed the counterfeit copy the pop up messages will go away.

Victim of software counterfeiting
You will have to go to Microsoft.com and relicense your copy of Windows XP. You can purchase a new key and see if that will reset the desktop or wait until the CD arrives to reaload it.

Remove ask for genuine microsoft software? - Solve
Welcome to FixYa!
If you're seeing notifications that the copy of Windows
that is installed on your PC might not be genuine, or that you might be
a victim of counterfeit software, it's likely that your copy of Windows
was not properly activated or is otherwise not genuine. To fix this,
click the notification and follow the steps to either repair Windows or-if you have inadvertently obtained counterfeit software-buy genuine Windows.
If you are using Windows XP, download and install the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Application. It will scan your operating system and will remove the annoying message if it's a legitimate copy of windows.
