You need to use Windows XP Professional SP3 media dvd if you want to use your XP Pro SP3 product key. As far as I know, the SP3 product key does not work with the previous version of media (non-SP, SP1, and SP2).

If you have a desktop computer, look for the "genuine" Microsoft decal on the side/back of the case.
If you have a laptop computer, look for the "genuine" Microsoft decal on the bottom of the case.

You'll find a 25-character license-key. Enter that key, when prompted, during the installation of Windows XP.

The link below will take you to Microsoft's website which will allow you to download service pack 3. Remind you that this is the full install for service pack 3 and will require service pack 2 already installed.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

try to open your windows in safe mode. (when you turn on your PC press F8 repeatedly), then choose safe mode. Once you entered on safe mode, go to start, RUN then MSCONFIG. then go to STARTUP. Uncheck all items then OK restart.

There are a couple of solutions to this problem but most of them require technical use of drive partition tools like Bart Pe or partician magic or some linux tools can move NTF files around as well.

.The simplest way is to back up your data and reinstall windows making sure that you delete and reformat all partitions when doing the install.

I hope this helps

Welcome to Fixya. The problem with the connection is that you need to check if the Windows XP SP2 settings is the same with the router.

First you need to access the router settings page and check if the security is the same of the computer. Access the router type then type admin for username and password for password. Select Wireless Settings. I need to verify if the Dot is on WPA2-PSK (AES).

If the settings is the same as above then we will configure the settings on your Windows XP Laptop.

- Go to Control Panel, Network Connection, Right Click on Wireless Network Connections then select Properties.
- Click on the Wireless Networks Tab on the Wireless Network Connection Properties window.

- Hightlight the SSID or Your Network Name and the click on the Properties Button.

- If your using WPA2 then change the dropdown to WPA2-PSK if the option is available.
- Data Encryption is AES same with the router, then retype the Network Key that you save on the router
- Then click Ok to close the window. Try to browse and hopefully this fix the issue.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

Yes, it sounds like a computer-virus.
Remove the disk-drive from your desktop computer,
and attach it as a "slave" disk-drive to some other desktop computer, and then run a full virus-scan.

Or, just follow "best practises":
* backup your data & music & E-mail & contacts,
* reinstall Windows from trusted media,
* run Windows Update a bunch of times,
* reinstall anti-virus software,
e.g., http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials
* reload your files.

there is no product key for these discs, they are system restore discs and you have to use your windows licence key that is on a sticker on the pc. if you do not have a licence key sticker you will have to purchase one from Microsoft.
