I'm not sure what condition your system is in or what caused you to attempt a system recovery, but without further information to guide me, I'd suggest you take a look at

On the other hand, if your system is an HP or Dell or some such name brand, it's possible you would be better advised to go to their support site and follow instructions specific to your model. Search the support site for info on system failure or recovery console, etc. and you'll be likely to get detailed instructions that may help you through the process.
