Hi,
Yes certainly you can just reformat the hard drive and install Win 98 on the machine. You will no doubt find that the operating system runs very well as the computer was built for Win98 in the first place.
However you may find the you might have difficulty with the USB 2 drivers as they do not come with the driver cab package. You should be able to get the drivers from Sony's support website as well as any other drivers you may need.
Regards.

How to give link within word document
Select the word you want to jump TO. From the insert menu select bookmark and name appropriately.
Go to the top, as an example and select the word you want to click on, from the insert menu or toolbar click on Hyperlink (world with link) and from the hyperlink window select Bookmark (right side) AND select the newly created bookmark. If it's not there then it was not created.

I want to restore my windows 98
Under normal circumstances, Windows is capable of detecting and recovering from registry errors automatically. If Windows is incapable of this, a previous copy of the registry can be restored manually. Windows makes and stores a backup of the registry when you start your computer successfully each day. By default, five previous copies or the registry are stored. To restore one of these previous copies:
- Start your computer, press and hold CTRL, and then choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only from the Windows 98 Startup menu. If you are running Windows Me, start your computer with the startup disk.
- At the MS-DOS prompt, type cd\windows\command, and then press ENTER. Where windows is the name of the folder in which Windows is installed.
- At the C: prompt, type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER.
- Select the previous registry you want to restore, and then press ENTER.NOTE: A properly working registry has the word "Started" next to the date.
- When you receive notification that you restored a properly working registry, press ENTER to restart your computer

Had my google web page ,put in norton security, now
norton isn't worth the hassle it gives you, try stopping it by typing in services.msc in the run dialog box and stop the service, then try google, if it works, my advice is you just disable it and try a different anti virus. Avast is a good one.

Please note this may not correct all the issues. Windows registry can get cluttered with unwanted registry entries leading to a slower machine and then leading to regular BSOD.
If BSOD is still a regular occurrence, it is best to reinstall your operating system, provided you have all the driver CD's and you have all the important data on your computer backed up.
Regarding XP or Windows 7, the decision should depend mostly on the memory capacity. If you have a reasonably good processor, about 2GB of memory (1GB work but sluggish) and if you are willing to purchase a new OS, then Windows 7 will give you a better experience. However, note that some peripherals/add on cards may have difficulty in working if you are unable to get the correct drivers.
